How crazy expensive? I thought masks where already very, very expensive?

Does someone with more knowledge know why this is not used more for chip production? Is it just new, and TSMC is screwed? What are the downsides? Speed? Edit - thanks for the answers - and yes it would make more sense for ASML to be worried

Something that stood out to me skimming the paper - that was somewhat buried - they finetune the model on each benchmark. "Finally, for each individual task (benchmark), we fine-tune the PaLI-3 model with frozen ViT image encoder on th

These bogus CVEs have real downstream effects - if you have say, a compliance team that wants every docker and base os image to be updated to patch every CVE over a certain level. False security through process.

Tangent- I had a similar problem in my undergrad EE capstone class where our serial connection to our microcontroller kept being filled with random garbage. I moved my laptop at one point - and it stopped! The charging cable had been lying

The expansion of the surveillance state is bad - but honestly this is sort of a weak story. They uploaded footage showing the attempted theft of their own robot to the LAPD. That seems…normal? If they streamed all video to a police server l

That really does not seem that expensive - pretty sure 800Gb/s switches with that many ports cost around the same ballpark.

Cool tech as others have said, but of course, for thee but not for me with Google, unless I missed a link to a GitHub repo. (That's why OpenAI is called OpenAI - not open source, but at least open access!)

Russians literally did this during the Moscow Theater Crisis - they aerosolized Carfentanyl and Remifentanil into the vent system! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_theater_hostage_crisis

Do cliff notes of books and plays infringe/need a license? If so, that seems like they’d have a possible case. Maybe. If not, well… maybe openAI infringed by not buying their original copy, but not sure that feeding it into a bunch of

I posit in this case USB-C would also fail :) Or alternatively, that 2 year old sticks something in that port and breaks that little tab.

100% agree with this - the lightning connector was actually a really nice design. In a perfect fantasy world, it would have been open sourced so others companies could use it, and been upgraded to higher speeds too.

Honest to whatever - How?! Those connectors seem like solid metal, seems like it would take ludicrous force to break it like that. So would a cable side USB-C connector - but in agreement with the grandparent comment that tab in the center

Following the same pattern they’ve used for a while, the older phone will get the same A17 chip. The special high performance X/Z stuff was always for the iPad line only. I am not aware of any special “pro” only a series chip.

Maybe, I’d like to see some sources that the chip is actually the same as what they use in the pro iPads. It also could be heat related in the iPad Air, it has a thinner and lighter chassis with less metal. Thunderbolt uses a fair bit of po

USB-2 is integrated into the A16 SoC - not USB3. USB3 / USB 4 was enabled with an external chip in select iPads. This has a power, space, and material cost. It may not even fit in the phone space or power budget at all. For the A17, th

Apple is fairly silent on these kinds of things, but it really is impressive how much they invest in leading edge manufacturing - huge CNC factories, this insane mixed metal weld, laser precision drilling…
