My hypothesis for the performance disparity is that h264 encoding is hardware accelerated and webm is not.

They are of comparable quality. I find the h264 slightly better, but I have not done extensive testing. I did try dropping the quality significantly with my webm profile, but it had a trivial performance improvement.

Has anyone had experience optimizing for webm? I really want to support this codec, but it's insanely slow in my experience. I'm finding that it's generally around 4x slower than mp4, but I've also had cases where it&#

Very excited to see how this project progresses. It appears to be right in line with what I need right now. I've standardized my app architecture on Docker, but have not had the time to mature the instance management and deployment p

My brother has quite a few industry connections, so we had some great leads to start with. With that said, he's been relentless in seeking out new opportunities which has benefitted us greatly. Since we no longer have scaling limitatio

I started development on rukus.io about a year ago. Over the past few months we've been starting to get decent sized contracts, with many more planned for this year. We've done a great job keeping our costs extremely low, so it

My brother and I have been working on http://rukus.io for the past year. We've gone from a super simple linear rendering proof-of-concept to an architecture that scales to millions of renders/month. We're not li

I configure my local containers to my ($5/month) quay.io account to address the problem you are describing. If all of your containers start with quay.io/name then you don't have to worry about exposing your docker images.

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I've hit a major wall in figuring out the best workflow for this exact scenario. Good to finally hear an official suggestion on the matter. I've been depending on shared directories, so

I would say sleep is the single most important thing. Never cut that corner if you don't absolutely have to. My best moments of clarity are on my hour long morning drive after a good night's sleep, not when I'm actually doin

The big deal for me is that a unity3d headless server only runs on windows. I have an architecture the produces customized video content, I'd love to write a unity module but cannot until Linux is supported.

I read this kind of quickly but did they actually say that they raised $5,000,000 6 months ago, decided in that time that their business model would not work then decided to go into 'stealth mode' and work on their next fancy?

I find it interesting that very few people know about the "cd -" command (goto previous directory). I find it invaluable, but never see anyone else use it (this tutorial included).

Your assumption is incorrect. Wsj decided not to renew its contract with allthingsd. Wsj has launched a new technology section today which replaces the old stale section.

Very impressed with Assange's technical chops in this discussion. I only read about a third of the discussion, but I kept getting the feeling that he was trying to dumb the topic down to a level Schmidt would understand.

I would argue that Wolfenstein 3D is more responsible for ushering in the first person shooter genre than Doom. Wolfenstein was original in it's technology, Doom was based on that tech. Both were extremely popular in their time. The ma

I think that as long as the code you commit has full coverage and good quality tests (not only tests to improver coverage) then testing your code after writing it can be equally effective in large projects. I guide many junior developers an
