The main statement of the linked story is that on modern machines stack doesn't need to be small therefore we can embrace on-stack recursion, and current general preference for iteration over recursion is just an old luggage. To me it

The part about script is very stretched, let's face it. I'm not denying that asking in natural-ish language maybe more comfortable for some operations, but when something becomes repetitive (and most things people do for money are

Court usually takes circumstances into consideration, so yeah, there's proportionality encoded. It's not like everybody's given 20 years automatically.

Destroying evidence. Not for something. Just destroying evidence is a crime in itself. Ask your lawyer maybe.

The punishment is for destroying evidence, not destroying a plane. And it's so heavy because otherwise it would make perfect sense to destroy evidence.

I think it's sort of mode of reading thing: while on HN you expect either a technical piece of information, or news where you can quickly jump directly to conclusion. But this one is a rare bird here, a story-telling. I wouldn't c

No, that's not true. You apparently glanced over it, but didn't really read it, so making a summary for others was not the best idea. The story is more about real-life limitations for tracking of stolen things with "Find My..

Of course I haven't as I made zero claim about mnemonics. We're talking about readability i.e. cognitive burden which by definition increases with amount of unknown words, or words with unexpected contextual meanings

Here's a recent (Oct 2022) reference to solid science [1] which seems to contradict WP claim of strong evidence: While there is some evidence that eating unprocessed red meat is associated with increased risk of disease incidence and m

Emacs is a programmable environment constructor, ain't it? Significant share of users prefer evil-mode, and use "p in command mode", not c-y. There are people who have custom keyboards (and even pedals) and their bindings of

Not sure if this 80s secession attempt is true, but just to add some dimension of complexity, if such things mentioned without a vast context it's guaranteed to be misunderstood. In 80s it was still USSR, and what was "X leadeship

The fact that Emacsen developers started to create text-manipulation terminology earlier is laudable. But it doesn't make Emacsen terms better. From purely pragmatic perspective we have almost a separate language which brings additiona

It's nitpicking. You can make 500 steps vs 100, and make a headline-like claim that it's five times more. In real life difference is negligible. Your organism requires walking in significant doses, and for you to practice it, you

Sitting in a bus is still sitting, offering no health benefits vs sitting in a car (arguably, it's even less healthy when crowded). If the topic is health, the opposite here is walking, or (to lesser extent) cycling.
