How long would whale lifespans be if whales had the same level of medical care as humans? Humans today regular live well beyond our natural lifespans, if we were all dying at 30 cancer probably wouldn’t be much of an issue

All publicity is good publicity when you're in the game of monopolizing the world's attention market, c.f. the constant publicity stunts of figures like Trump and Kanye.

Think about it, what if Tinder’s algorithm somehow matched everyone directly with their soulmates. How many of those users would be on the app the next day? How many of those would continue paying for the app? Providing this sort of service

4-5 hours of interviews seems pretty standard even for companies you’ve never heard of. Nowadays every tech company pretends like they’re FAANG, and then they complain about how hard it is to hire new devs. As if the Leetcode rigamarole wer

I can’t help but feel like the region would become more livable if they did. California has too many people for its own good, or at least more people than its 50s-era suburban infrastructure can comfortably support

Pretty terrible name for an algorithm to be honest. Besides being unpronounceable, if the purpose is to acknowledge the discoverers of the algorithm it doesn’t even do a good job of that (who recognizes initials anyway?)

It's pretty different. Compare the BBC, for example, where basically every article on the front page seems to subtly or not-so-subtly imply that our planet is on the brink of full-blown catastrophe. While such articles occasionally gai

Hasn’t that always been the way it has worked? For the longest time Canadian immigration was restricted to the British isles and Western Europe (look up the Chinese immigration restriction acts). Compared to then Canada has pretty much open

So where exactly does the money go after Meta has paid the fine? To the Irish GDPR commission? Towards Irish public services? Into some commissioner's pockets?

It helps if you have a nice park to run through. I think this is why I've always had an easier time consistently doing cardio than someone who might only do cardio on a stationary bike or treadmill. My friends don't believe me whe

I think that’s an important point, and not all texts are made equal. Reading and understanding 200 pages of Heidegger is very different than reading 200 pages of Harry Potter. Part of reading well is know what to spend the time on.

Some people are just really gifted readers. Whether through some combination of learning to read early or just being able to skip the ‘sub-vocalization’ part of reading, many are able to get through hundreds of books a year. It’s a kind of
