Like it or not, we've no choice but to live through this massive planet-wide experiment in real time. Short term we'll see lots of bursts of news, and new exciting findings, but it's only in the long term maybe even years fro

Not the OP but you can have a large, complex system that's widely understood and supported by a decent sized team, where a rewrite is still not a commercially wise choice

Being chronically under-stimulated (bored) can be very harmful to your wellbeing, just as being consistently over-stimulated (stressed) can be. I would look for a change, for sure, be it in your current place or elsewhere; long term you sim

Guessing OP means people who don't just do the software equivalent of "architect buildings" (solutions), but do so on a scale bordering on town planning i.e. entire software landscapes?

The article did link to a fairly decent definition to be fair: https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/articles/what_is_ultra-processed_... Edit: that BBC page in turn links to this, which again looks helpful and reasonably cr

This may well be true, but it can also be an accurate and succinct word for "related to the bigger picture but a separate conversation". E.g. performance and security of the system both relate to that system but each dimension can

There's an important additional aspect to bikeshedding: the conversation gets sidetracked onto the distraction-level details very much because the main conversations are hard and everyone involved can understand and opine on the simp

I really enjoyed this and felt it resonates quite a lot with my own views. I think a lot about there not being a "right" or "wrong" approach, absolutely, rather approaches which work for some teams and individuals that d

In the UK we're not vaccinating under 18s in volume - not yet anyway. I really don't want my kids to take part in the Great Adolescent Long Covid Experiment.

I would humbly offer the UK as a counterpoint to all these creative fields and add TV output to the mix. Not to get into a US/UK pissing contest but to highlight the UK has very healthy culture output with a lot of talent. I'd als

This is very likely location and industry dependent. FWIW I'm mid forties, still love being 'hands on' with tech, and am based in the UK. I know a load of folks my age and above and never heard of any age-related rejections.
