You should put your email on your profile so people can email you instead of randomly adding Amir on Facebook.

Wow, it's amazing what a few hours of quiet reflection can do. Having read the replies, given it a few more moments of silence and exercised some more empathy, I now regret this comment and wish I could still delete it.

After reading the replies, I now think my first assumption was wrong, and that Coursera does in fact offer substantially more than raw stacks of torrented pdfs. But that's just my second point. MOOCs are a substantial service built on

I'll probably get shot down for being that typical negative HN comment, but do MOOCs like Coursera actually do much in the way of making education more accessible or society fairer? All the content offered on Coursera already exists on

I mean the underlying conceptual security system, not the data it protects. Crowdsourced security audits are similar to everyone telling you in public debates why you're wrong.

I tried turning off syntax highlighting for a while. I actually liked it better. But at the time I was programming in Clojure, where there isn't much syntax, and you just read your code as a tree of tokens mapped to abstract ideas. In

To be fair, I can sympathize with OP's sentiment; why offer help to someone who not only doesn't want but will actively prosecute you for it? I don't agree, but I could imagine feeling this way in another universe.

This strikes me as one of the most poorly understood aspects of software/computing. Breaking into a computer system is like criticizing someone's ideas, not breaking into a house. Since anyone can trivially break into a house, we

The point is that with politics and religion people don't even think they need to be knowledgeable to contribute to the discussion. I wish this "who can know for sure?" relativist hands-in-air sort of sentiment were less prev

No, that part's fine. But you're protesting that an organization you've more or less openly criticized won't let you game them.
