You can easily use a VoIP number to set up Signal if that's really an issue for you. The alternative (using Telegram's homegrown and dubious cryptography and lack of actually encrypted group messages) is significantly worse. Here&

Why does Signal scare you? All of their code is open source[1] and has had multiple public audits[2]. [1]: https://github.com/signalapp [2]: https://eprint.iacr.org/2016/1013.pdf

I think Peterson is a little too intelligent to speak frankly on race, so he speaks in code to his followers that are in the know and allows them to make the logical deductions he leads them to. There's a discussion on his subreddit[1]

It's called libel when it's written down. Would the furthest thing from a neo-nazi tweet this, which is full of alt-right dog whistles? > KEK boys. Seek your 4chan. Don't stay in the underworld. Author your future. Code PE

To those wondering why alt-right/neo-nazi/1488-type people are flocking to Jordan Peterson: this comment accurately describes both Peterson's views and the alt-right view on race. Many alt-right people claim they acknowledge

Here's some dispassionate inquiry: he leans on IQ far too heavily to explain how the brain works. While there is correlation between jobs and IQ and some research that shows a mild inverse relationship between IQ and crime, it's n

Assuming these people actually exist, don't you think they should have a little more backbone? If you can't handle any criticism of your ideas, how can you be an effective advocate?

Fun story about this: in college we had to make a barcode reader out of a simple phototransistor. To scan the barcode, you had to slide the device along a piece of paper. The barcode scanner had to be isolated from ambient light so that we&

They were already in the crosswalk when the car hit them. What should they have done, precisely? This victim blaming that happens to cyclists and pedestrians after they're hit is shameful.

I think vehicular manslaughter is a reasonable charge. If you can't not plow into pedestrians who have the right of way, you are negligent.

It isn't just cyclists, but pedestrians too. The best way to murder someone in America is to run them over with your car and say it was an accident. The other person, being dead, can't testify otherwise. There's a particularl

Honest question for people who think this stifles freedom: do you also think taking down ISIS recruitment videos is anti-free speech? Should we not do that either? Online radicalization is real. The challenge of how to deal with that and of

If you think Nazism, a racist, hateful ideology opposed to the existence of many groups of people, is equivalent to being black in America, we have nothing to discuss.

I write down what I learn sorta like Marcus Aurelius did in his Meditations. I find it useful to revisit them every so often, not just to remind myself what I learned, but to see what I thought was important. https://www.seancass

I wouldn't let any password manager touch my browser. Giving attackers access to your password manager's APIs via JS or DOM elements is how most (all?) of the dozens of severe LastPass bugs have happened.

I use pass, written by zx2c4 of WireGuard fame: https://www.passwordstore.org/ My favorite thing about it is that it uses standard tools I understand, and I can back it up and version it with git.

This reminds me of the joke about the economist who refuses to pick up the $20 bill on the ground because surely someone else would have already picked it up.
