I’ve been following the nix-windows project, has there been any recent progress there? I already run NixOS on my home server, Nix and home-manager on my MacBook. It would be great to replace scoop on Windows with Nix too.

Surely Valve would be better served by having some immutable system partition and maybe even A/B image based updates?

If I can get my hands on one of these I definitely intend to try running NixOS on it…

Does Wayland even have a good remoting solution today?

I think it might be more reasonable to look at this like air to air refuelling, rather than a petrol station. Either the tanker or the satellite or both must spend a significant amount of fuel to align their orbits and velocities precisely

I’ve used OsmAnd for several years as a secondary maps app. I’ve found OpenStreetMaps to have better data for walking that either Apple or Google maps. One issue with OsmAnd however is that map drawing feels somewhat sluggish, this app is h

My take is to compare how ads are displayed today, vs maybe 10 years ago. Ads today are almost indistinguishable from organic content, and are typically at the top of any results. I would think that ads could still exist if organic results

Is this perhaps a COVID specific issue? Even during COVID I've kept in touch with a group of friends, albeit smaller. I still have the chance to go get a coffee or head to the gym, but I get to decide what those interactions are now.

I have been in that position before, and with certain groups it has been difficult. My, perhaps optimistic, hope is that post-COVID even those that return to the office will be more understanding for the challenges of those that are remote,

Would the perf cost of such an abstraction have been acceptable on early 386 hardware? I lean towards no but that is just a feeling without data…

TI are in an especially bad spot and they make lots of things from microcontrollers to battery chargers to power converters. Their parts are pretty common but many of them are currently unobtainable from standard distributors.

The chances seem good that some upgrades will be possible to make as a third party too, maybe not a new motherboard - though I wouldn’t be that surprised to see somewhat put an ARM SoC in there - but the ports are based on USB-C and it’s

I tend to find that I first notice the visual aura because reading becomes significantly more difficult. I can still make everything out, but focusing on the words takes additional effort. This sometimes comes with some sort of visual artif

It's unfortunate - the western north-south corridor has the potential to be a very useful transit link. I (pre-covid) took the train from Vancouver, BC to Seattle, WA semi-regularly as my preferred mode of travel, but there was at leas

Yes! The technology for rail exists today (and is well proven in Europe and Asia). Self driving cars are largely new and unproven with no clear path to widespread use, with both regulatory and sociatal challenges, in addition to the technic

Amtrak is already competitive in certain regions. The northeast is the most obvious, but the train is my preferred mode of travel between Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA. Whilst a flight is quicker, in the air, door to door is no faster. Driv

Nix has been something I’ve played with for a while, but increasingly I’ve been using it. I would love to see Nix working on Windows - there was a project to make that happen but I don’t know what the current status is.

I didn’t realise Seafile Pro was free for up to 3 users. I had previously looked but gave up as no self hosted solution was really comparable to OneDrive or Dropbox.

Yeah I tend to trust B2 for my offsite. I have redundant storage locally with snapshots. That covers up to two disks failing or even someone trying to wipe storage over SMB. The offsite protects against catastrophic failure or theft. I woul

That’s very neat - though I think orthogonal to my Nix plan. Certainly suits anyone that wants to manage multiple APs from the same interface however.

It's an interesting idea to have a single pane of glass management experience for OpenWRT - given that all config is under UCI [0] it seems very possible. One of the things on my todo list is to try and get Nix to push config to my Uni
