I ended up picking my current number because it had a power of two. A silly thing but it amused me.

Yeah, I don’t think this would really have a market in much of the US or Canada where even older apartments typically have dishwashers, maybe in cities like NYC there are folks that would find it useful? But lots of U.K. homes don’t have a

Availability of their existing dev kits is at best spotty. The AGX Orin [0] dev kit is at least available for backorder at $2k USD - but I haven't seen any of the Xavier kits available for many many months... [0] - https://w

Telus will give you a bunch off their fiber plans if you can haggle with them, it's a pain and you have to do it every time your service renews, but I'm paying ~$65/m for 1Gbps so it's worth it...

I'm guessing you've seen the Infineon (formally Cypress) PSoC [0] stuff too? Both analogue and digital peripherals that can be configured mostly arbitrarily. There are also some neat mixed-signal parts from Dialog [1] - no MCU but

Peer to peer DMA is a thing, though I don't know enough about PCI to say how it works on this sort of topology.

I have an Intel box as a router, a managed switch and then a Unifi AP - there are certainly more parts, but each component does it's job relatively well.

When I last looked it seemed like you could easily do a few 100Mbps but once your WAN was >=1Gbps it seems like you become much more limited. I ended up going for an Intel box which ends up doing everything in software - is there anywher

Shipping a US keyboard in Europe seems like an odd choice since most European keyboard layouts are ISO, not ANSI. I could see a blank keyboard working, or an ISO US keyboard maybe, but that is an uncommon layout that I don't think I&#x

Increasing dependency on coal would be foolish - it has a greater climate and health impact. Gas certainly is not great, but it's an improvement.

Not just that multi TB are not affordable, but also I can get >1Gbps throughout on my local network and essentially 0 latency - whilst my internet connection is max 1Gbps and effectively a little less, with more significant latency. When

Is there any way to attach 4-6 SATA drives over Thunderbolt? One of my main uses for a home server is as a file share, for both device backups but also for photos etc. I’m still running a Gen 8 HP MicroServer because nothing since has reall

I’m going to need to work this out soon. I picked up a pair of new YubiKey 5Cs yesterday with their sale. I’ve been using a YubiKey Neo for years for U2F, TOTP and GPG. Moving the GPG key is easy - though I might try using the FIDO2 support

I'm not sure what is gained by gating this on the API used though? Couldn't you get around this by having the user install something using the session API which then installs the malicious app that uses the a11y API - it might req

You might be thinking of SafetyNet. I'm not sure if there are any reliable ways to get root without tripping SafetyNet, but last I knew you could - on a Pixel - flash a different ROM and then relock the bootloader, and you'd be fi

Mobile devices could, if the SOC allowed every device to be isolated with an IOMMU. Apple does this, Nvidia too (though some SoCs are broken) and I think Qualcomm might as well. A lot of the other ARM SoCs seem to have just one or maybe two

I’m curious, what do you use to access files on your NAS? I’ve used Samba for forever but it’s always been kind of annoying to deal with permissions, and whilst running AD would probably solve that, I then have to deal with running AD. I’m

I'm in Vancouver, BC and paying 80$/mo for 1Gbps symmetric. I could get 2.5Gbps but it would be about twice the cost - and I would have to get something that can do 2.5G link speed on an SFP+, not many devices can.

I’m pretty sure it’s x86 that is weird in having a strong memory model, most other architectures (including ARM) are weak.
