This finally prompted me to try Kagi - and it seems like I’m going to be paying for it after all. I’ve gotten on okay with DDG until now, but this certainly appears to be a step better again.

Surely it’s pretty hard to use satellite SOS by accident since you need to point it at the satellite overhead? Was yours the normal crash or fall detection?

Unless it’s changed again you don’t need a dev account to deploy apps to iOS - but it is somewhat limited. You can have at most 3, the signing lasts for just a week and IIRC the entitlements you can use are limited as well?

The 15 Pro is slightly narrower and shorter than the 15, though a touch thicker and heavier. Same thing with the Pro Max vs the Plus - so I’m not really sure what you’re getting at here.

Maybe? It seems like Unity is charging the fee per install [0], not per unique user. So when I install my Steam games on my desktop, my laptop and my Steam Deck that's 3 installs. If I reinstall the OS, that'll be another install

There was also Mono UE [0] - which was being developed by some of the Xamarin folks. I’ve not played around with any game development for a long while - does C# end up popular here just because people are familiar with Unity? I definitely g

Ricoh are developing a new film camera under the Pentax brand - which may or may not make it to retail. IIRC not an SLR - but still in that direction. The only other “serious” option - as in not a Holga or something - that I can think of is

It amuses me a little - the Ea-nāṣir tablet is pretty well known online but in the British Museum it's just in a case alongside a couple other tablets. If you didn't know what you were looking for you wouldn't notice it.

If you shoot B/W home development is easily achieved - even C-41 is doable at home but it is more involved. Of course that only gets you negatives, you’ll either need to scan them yourself, pay for it, have an enlarger to make photogra

What was your motivation for 128GB? VMs are the only reason I sometimes struggle with 32GB, but that’s not been an issue often enough for me to do anything. If I really need some more memory it’s easy enough to spin up some cloud instance f

I really wish we’d just get in-band ECC on normal consumer platforms. That way we’d need no special DIMMs, in applications where ECC was desired it could be enabled and the capacity penalty would be paid, in other applications it could be d

My concern with fixing a storage device is that storage is pretty much the worst thing to fail. Maybe as a cache drive or perhaps for some large applications - but I wouldn’t trust it with data I cared about…

Yep, a lot of the time it’s as simple as overriding the src and version of a given package -though if the package has patches to build on Nix it can be more work.
