Not quite that old, but early to mid-50s - Pretty sure GenX is 1965 - 1980. I'm on the tail end of that and yeah no pensions... Baby boomers got all the good stuff :)

Living for today and profit today is a common human trait. We (unfortunately) think in human lifespan as a "long time" and many don't care what happens to future generations after they are gone :(

Most of the time I agree that EVs looks stupid (and Honda designs of last 10+ years are not great), BUT to me this loks really cool.

Also Fort Collins CO - they recently (last year?) passed city approval to roll out municipal broadband. it is actively laying fiber now and expected to be live by start of 2020 or earlier. Gigabit speeds. It would be great if Boulder wer

Could be. But IME that may have been true in the past, but I dont see that in Fedora 29 with TLP and powertop enabled on my Carbon X1. I get equiv batt run times.

I haven't had any problems with my X1. But maybe i got lucky and won the "lottery". A great machine IME Other options might be T480/T490 series - for "close" to X1 thinness the T490s (T480s) are an option. I

I dont know about Ubuntu, but on my Fedora 29 install most of these are not an issue: >ugly fonts I dont have a problem with ugly fonts. Default fonts in Gnome F29 are nice. I use it for dev/devops work, not graphic design so my s

Thinkpad Carbon X1 6th gen or (7th?) - this is the mac replacement (great hardware) that runs Linux perfectly.

TP Carbon X1 has the best non-Mac trackpad I have used. But honestly I don't think any trackpad is as good as the mac. It is however better than most PC trackpads

This is not my experience with a TP Carbon X1 6th gen + Fedora 29. I have no issues... You really have to choose your hardware wisely. I have found the Thinkpads the best with Dell XPS series following.

I think the best bet is the Thinkpad Carbon X1. I run Fedora 29 on it and it is flawless on all functionality. You have the user desktop difference (e.g. gnome vs osx) to get used to and the obvious os x only apps that may be superior, bu

Thinkpads are great (T series) - Especially like the carbon X1s as they work great with Linux. It has been my primary driver for a while now with zero issues.

On Win 10, install WSL and use the ssh client there. If I have to use a win box as a workstation I never use Putty if I have that option.

IMO the best (or one of the best) for Linux : Thinkpad Carbon X1 6th gen (or 7th now?) I only wish it was sold without Windows so I can save $30-40 on the win license. Other than that, freaking perfect laptop that rivals a macbook (I will a

Interesting - I use Fedora 29 and the defaul fedora repo version of FF with no issues on my end. I know that doesnt help, but it sounds like something specific to your setup (which I know still isn/t much solace :( )
