It's pretty crazy how cheap San Jose is, especially over in the eastern part of town. But it's just not that exciting of a place to move to. Mountain View is much better than Cupertino, so long as you are relatively close to Castro St. High

There's not much going on in Cupertino. Palo Alto is a much nicer place to live. It's also much more expensive.

I'd say that LA has many of the same issues. Most of LA is very dirty (though a few of the most touristy areas are very clean). If nothing else the air quality alone is reason enough to consider it dirty. Public transportation in LA is wors

Do you work on the iTunes Store or in the Apple Developer program? If not, I question the authority of your "99.9%" claim. As far as all of the other arguments, they are very touchy feely. "The App Store is new" but it's built on top of a s

You don't need to spell anything out. People disagree with you. First, there's no realistic world in which all of a sudden everyone is using different plugins. Almost nobody in the world has the kind of distribution that Google does. Very f

Why is this bad? From anyone other than a browser vendor's perspective.

Almost certainly not the case, because sites need to opt-in to use Chrome frame. I doubt somewhere in Windows they will be accidentally opting in. Chrome Frame is using the existing plug in architecture, they aren't being excessively obtrus

Users simply don't care about this. They think google is the browser already. Mozilla has this bizarre notion that people will be upset because they don't know which rendering engine they are currently using.

I'm not making a technical claim. I know what an operating system is. I'm making a claim about general mac users. I don't know a single person (even amongst the techies) who has uninstalled iTunes from their mac. I know few people who don't

It should be noted that much of what is open source is that way because it was already open source when Apple started using it. And much of that remains open source for legal reasons, not because Apple cares about open source.

Honestly, you can't separate iTunes and Quicktime from OS X. In the general sense of it, OS X is as much an ecosystem as anything else. In that ecosystem, iTunes and Quicktime are extremely important. Everything Apple does now runs through

MacRuby is a pretty interesting project. I'm not a huge ruby fan, but it definitely does have some syntactic advantages over Objective-C. Objective-J is walking a similar line, and thanks to its JavaScript base it has many of the same thing

There are some people who prefer JavaScript to scheme. More importantly, many more people have been exposed to JavaScript than have been exposed to scheme.

But Gears had as many useful features, and it benefits people who actually care about their experience rather than people who arguably don't. Why do we believe Google's going to push this in ways they never did for Gears?

Yes, but you realize that this is a self defeating argument, right? People who aren't using IE had to install the plugin themselves. Doesn't impact people who do use IE, the target market for this Google plugin.

Window is bundled with flash. So is Mac OS X. That's why it's so prevalent. So most people never have to actually install flash. I don't see any reason to believe this particular plugin will take a different trajectory than Gears, which has

Part of running a business is paying the associated costs. Training new employees is an expected cost of running a business, so take it out of your end. Doesn't seem like a particularly outrageous idea...

The point here is that the current API is basically a double negative. Rather than saying "I want to be a drag source" and "I want to be a drop target" you are saying "I don't want to not be a drag source" and "I don't want to not be a drop

I think that is a particularly cowardly approach. 99% of the proposed spec is not implemented in IE. Has no plans to be implemented in IE even. To say, "Oh, but we'll look ineffectual if we don't have at least one thing that works in IE" is

I really think that calling Deferreds a "de-facto standard" in JavaScript is a huge stretch. I'm having trouble pinning down exactly what makes Deferreds different from any asynchronous callback system, but it seems to be the chain of callb

I'm not sure what "cargo cult issues" are, but Cappuccino uses prefixed globals because they are strictly faster than using "namespaces" (which really aren't namespaces). It makes a big difference in IE.

Great, glad to clear these things up. I definitely agree about the syntax error thing. We'll try to make it a priority to commit a fix to WebKit.
