Thank you! We do have to abide by US AML / KYC laws as we are working with a sponsoring bank. We plan on releasing transparency reports on a regular basis.

Totally understand it's sensitive, and it's cool if you're not ready to trust us with that yet. That's something that we plan to earn and don't take for granted. Eventually we do plan to allow debit card funding.

There's a lengthier answer to this, but long story short, yes we're aware of a lot of the common pitfalls. A big part of the challenge comes down to limiting abuse on the cards (which we're planning to do).

Unfortunately it probably won't happen for awhile :(. We're a free service, and make money off the interchange from issuing these cards. Amex and high points cards are really expensive to accept funding from.

It does :), you can create directly from your dashboard without an extension. The current onboarding flow pushes you towards creating a card first, but we'll patch that.

Yep that's right, you'll need an account with Privacy.com, and you can use any name or billing address when you spend using a Privacy Visa Card. Touche, thanks for bringing that up. Updating the language.

Hey HN - Privacy.com co-founder here. I'm really excited to share what we've been working on for the past year and a half or so. We've been neck-deep in payments stuff on the card issuing side (getting a BIN sponsor, ACH orig

$1500 is certainly exciting for a lot of people! Really, if someone gave you $1500 off the street, would you be like, "is this exciting?" Applaud him for doing something good. $14m is a lot of money for any individual to shell out

Zoom (zoom.us) is really good for video conferences. It's got a slightly clunky interface, but the excellent audio quality and graceful fallback are clutch.

If you believe that the stock options of the startup you're at are worth $0, you should just ask for a market salary with 0 equity. Many companies will give you a sliding scale of cash / equity.

The best part of this change is the ridiculous email where they couched it by saying it was the "#1 request we heard from members."

Are you sure they ran out of cash? I haven't read that anywhere. It's possible they found the problem intractable and decided to return the remaining investor cash.

Bank overdraft and NSF fees are definitely odious. It's part of the reason why so many poor people have switched over to prepaid and are opting to pay the $5-$10 monthly fee for those accounts - it comes out to less for many people and

What does that even look like? It seems like a stretch to believe that we can create a government that we'll always be able to trust.

When we tried Zenefits out last year, they were very transparent about this. The rep I spoke with told me upfront that a PEO would be more cost effective for a company of our size.

A VP at a bank isn't really that high up. It's essentially a middle management role... It's not uncommon for people to make VP in their late 20s.

There are a couple of companies trying to do this right now. Digit just raised 11mm to do something similar. Acorns does something similar with investing. It is definitely a hard business to be in though, at the end of the day someone does

The reason is bigger banks basically don't make any money off low balance accounts. Interest spread earnings are minimal and the Durbin Amendment (2010) basically killed debit card interchange as a revenue stream for banks with over $1

Advocating for greater accountability across the board sounds great in principle, but what does that even mean? Are we to hold Google, accountable for monetizing the data they collect on us? That's the social contract you engage in wit

This. Right now I'm also more comfortable with Apple having my info, because their business is built on providing me with a premium product & charging me for it. Google is built on monetizing my data and selling me better ads.

This seems doable if the CEO is the final interview. I can't imagine the CEO overriding the team on more than 30% of interviews, so it's ~200 interviews on the high end. I know the Palantir founders still interview every candidate
