Can you give a good example of a market problem that can’t be solved through increased competition?

You’re getting downvoted, but I think this is a really good question. Why didn’t market competition solve this issue? I don’t know enough about this to be able to answer. Maybe John Deer was guilty of anti-competitive behavior that suppress

I expect it to be implemented in the most passive-aggressive way possible. Also, it will probably have the same bullshit tricks that Google uses to make it difficult, meaning it will only be useful to tech nerds.

This seems like an extreme niche. What is the benefit of offline installers? Doomsday prepping? Because it’s certainly not more convenient than what Steam does, and Steam doesn’t require an internet connection to play games.

That would be a pretty awesome installation at Universal Studios. But I guess making it not say offensive things might be a problem… or not, depending on the character.

Why would I invest in games/hardware for Stadia if Google themselves admit that it might get shutdown at anytime? Lying to consumers is the safer (short term) bet.

What words would you use to describe someone who looks down on others because they're actively looking for a job? The three that come to mind for me are: "cynical", "elitist", and "asshole"

I’m coming from the perspective of someone who has been working with it for a while, and coincidentally very intensely hacking away at it recently. The thing about waf is that it’s more designed like a framework than a typical build tool. I

I get that, but again, there's no reason Waf can't be used as a base for building that. I actually use Waf for cross compilation extensively, and have built some tools around it with Conan for my own projects. Waf can handle cross

No offense, but I think you're reading too much into my casual comments here to guide your understanding of waf, rather than the actual waf docs. Waf isn't optimized for clean builds (quite the contrary), and neither you nor I kno

I've been using Waf for a couple of years, including on retro thinkpads from ~08. I've never run into issues with the startup time for waf and/or Python. Even if the interpreter were 100x slower to start and execute than it c

It’s true that Waf doesn’t come with dependency management out of the box (EDIT: unless you count pkg-config), so maybe that’s why (besides NIHS). The way I handle it is with another excellent project called Conan ( https://conan.

I agree, that’s also pretty much why Starlark exists. However, there are many cases where you do need complex build logic. Personally, I always go for declarative CMake first, then waf as soon as I find my CMakeLists looking like somethin

I don't think that matters so much. For building a system, you definitely need dynamic linking, but end user apps being as self contained as possible is good for developers, users, and system maintainers (who don't have to worry a

I feel so lucky that I found waf[1] a few years ago. It just... solves everything. Build systems are notoriously difficult to get right, but waf is about as close to perfect as you can get. Even when it doesn't do something you need, o

In other words, they’re actually incentivized to help make LLMs as accessible as possible, rather than try to keep them locked up to hide them from competitors. Which makes me wonder if Nvidia is doing anything with LLMs too?

I'm sure Amazon can commit more resources to solving this problem than some random individual on HN can commit to a ~3 sentence long comment. If they wanted to solve this problem, they would have already. Clearly, they don't care.

I don't have the link, but someone estimated that training a Llama clone from scratch would cost around ~$80k. That's pocket change for most corporations and some individuals.
