Take an airplane... it’s dynamics are described by a series of differential equations. We want to know if it’s stable! If the wife values of the dynamics are real and greater than 1 it’s unstable. If the eigenvalues are complex and have

The navier stokes equation is quite literally solved using the diagonalization of large matrixes!

One thing to note is while there are not a lot of quantum algorithms (though wikipedia's list is very incomplete!), some of them are massively useful. Grover's algorithm provides a quadratic improvement in black box search (which

Java has a number of other advantages... you can effectively develop for Linux on a windows box. The vm architecture makes debugging easier. It has a large and useful body of code, including lots of libraries and features that ease inter

No... using divide and conquer matrix multiplication with this gives n^2.83. Strassens algorithm is n^2.79. This is good fir 5 by 5 matrices... which are not terribly interesting.

Matlab is a useful tool. But you don’t write a fem silver in matlab! And matlab came to the Mac only after the switch to Unix.

Classic ray tracing doesn’t do gi well, and gi is important for materials like blood that do lots of subsurface scattering. Also, blood is a fluid and with fluids your often better off using a ray marching algorithm that can handle implici

The transmissivity is too high in that image, I agree btw. And ray tracing can’t really do convincing blood

It’s not. Blood is a colloid and is actually quite transmissive. Opaque blood looks like plastic. Getting the right values is hard. Blood, like milk, also exhibits quite a bit of subsurface scattering... it’s a hard problem to make it l

you can ray trace with pbr. Ray tracing is a technique to calculate the amount of light on a surface by projecting light rays from the camera (there are other related techniques as well). Once you have the amount of light on a surface, you

No significance!! 1587 is the year Kit Marlowe wrote Tamerlane and Thomas Kyd wrote The Spanish Tragedy. Those two plays revolutionized English drama and started off the Elizabethan literary renaissance.

I’m sure mac was a wonderful dev environment for developing Mac GUI apps. But was it a wonderful dev environment for developing high performance numerical code? Or web servers? Or robotics? Or... Most developers don’t write GUI apps.

This algorithm solves all np problems. For all possible solutions (there are at most 2^p(x) where p is some polynomial), Check if that solution is correct. This of course takes exponential time. Just because you have an algorithm to solve
