You’re forgetting about derailment... which can slow trains down much much faster

I have no idea? Brain fart. doctors also get paid by the procedure, so charge less for simple office visits (it’s complicated because of how medical billing works)

You almost certainly pay far more than 68 an hour for a doctor! (How long are you actually with the doctor?). Plumbers and mechanics are paid at a significantly lower rate than doctors and lawyers!

Note that this is the announcement of a settlement. Nvidia agrees to pay 5.5 million, agrees to state the risk, and doesn’t admit to fault. No one is in serious trouble... nvidia should have indicated the risk, and didn’t... (probably bec

It’s annoying when parsing c. Also the situation is worse in c++ since * can have side effects!

I like to joke that the world would be very different if we had Platos lecture notes and Aristotle’s dialogues (which were famous in antiquity)

Homer is an exception to this! There are almost a thousand Homeric manuscripts. There are 7 Plato manuscripts. Aristotle was significantly more popular, with almost 300 manuscripts, almost all from the west, and due to Byzantine original

No one was particularly interested. People in Constantinople didn’t even know what manuscripts they had! (The major extent Plato manuscripts fir instance are from the 9th-11th centuries, the so called Macedonian renaissance). Westerners be

Finanally, c++ is the only language I would ever want to do linear algebra in, or for that matter, many graph algorithms. Rust is adding features to make it useful for linalg, but it’s not their yet. Linear algebra is important!

I should note that writing data structures in rust is also a fraught business! In practice, that’s just a property of languages that don’t have garbage collection. Exception safety is a serious complication in c++! Exceptions were a mist

The most important non x86 arch is aarch64 which is in fact byte addressable (more so than x86)! So is mips64.

Planting trees is more expensive than you think! You have to buy the land, maintain it, actually physically plant the trees ( which is rather labor intensive). Plants are a relatively low density place to store carbon ( compared to say car

Lots of programs malloc a lot of memory, and do nothing with it for a while. This allows the os to wait for a low load time to handle memory allocation.
