Well, I think letting people get silently charged monthly without sending them any message about it is a bad idea, even if they say they want it. Similar with not telling them about an outage to their service.

I think you're trying to use two wrongs to make a right. If we're talking about things Gulf Power of Florida should do differently, then rather than add unsubscribe buttons to bills which is a bad idea, they should confirm people&

That's a different problem. They should have first sent a confirmation email, then paused all communications until it was confirmed. But once the email is confirmed, I think it's totally fair for a company like rsync to say '

Do you know what the lawyers said beyond "I'm a lawyer and would like you to edit the blacklist" ? Are these companies doing something illegal by blacklisting you unfairly, or do you have grounds for some sort of civil suit (

Pretty sure the government won't view it that way. It'll be called a loophole and crushed if it gets mainstream. This is the country where sending an HTML GET and receiving response 200 can be prosecuted under the CFAA. We need a

I don’t think it’s quite that simple. A math paper generally says 3 kinds of things: X is true, this is the high level idea of how we can prove X is true, and this is the detailed proof that X is true. As the post mentions, usually when the

Really? If your software is only used by a very specific kind of person in very specific circumstances, that logic might work. Otherwise, you'll always find two different people, or one person at two different times, with mutually cont

It's simple. Most software today is not created to serve the user. It is created to accomplish certain goals (e.g. obtaining money, attention, data, or prestige from the user) and only serves the user as incidental to accomplish those
