I wonder if Linode has a requirement to have their CF admin site accessible outside their network (assuming, of course, that the attacker didn't first gain entry into the corporate network, and then attacked the CF installation)? As someone

This has generally been my experience, but even the best product manager I've worked with will occasionally do something, well, dumb. Just like engineers do sometimes.

But I do contend that being able to work 4/12 hours at home versus all 12 hours at work is a substantial improvement for both yourself and for your family (especially if you have young children). I agree. Completely. My employer gives m

The difference between "editor wars" and a new musical notation is that choosing a particular editor does not limit you in reading or writing things that people have already done. If I learn to read music via new notation, that's great, bu

Agreed. Many, many people will never even consider the sorts of connections that Schneier makes. Simply getting a few people to think more deeply about the role of technology in our lives is progress.

Even after the Tractatus was published, Wittgenstein was still teaching secondary school in Austria (though this was of his own choice). He didn't even take a position at Cambridge until 1929 (eight years after the Tractatus was published)

But, as `sybhn said, did that guy call himself a rock star? My manager is very similar--his mind works about twice as fast as mine, and he's very productive. He'd never, ever call himself a "rock star" though.

In 2001 there were plenty of people who were critical of Microsoft and their market share abuse but this was at a time when saying "stop using Windows" was akin to saying "stop driving a car". Why was this? Perhaps because the state of f
