The very set of exercises had me working on Pascal's Triangle and binomial co-efficients. The exercises continued to work through math problems. While I'm sure this stuff is old hat for many programmers, I often struggled with the basic a

Yep, all material is still available, but I don't believe you can submit your work for a certificate. I just wanted a structured way to learn Scala, so I wasn't interested in receiving a certificate for my work.

I'm in the middle of taking the course, and while I enjoy it, I wish the prerequisites mentioned the heavy emphasis on math. I don't have a CS degree, nor do I have a background in advanced maths, so I find myself struggling with the assig

From my experience as a climber[1], it has to do with my own comfort level, and feeling the need to compare myself to others. When I judged others as n00bs, or weaker than I was, it was done mostly to make myself feel better about myself.

I went through this phase as a climber (fortunately it preceded my career as a programmer, so I learned my lesson), and I've gotten over myself, and realized that no matter what I do, there are scores of people who are better, and more humb

I concur about Intrigue, but I don't mind the Alchemy set. During one game with the Familiar, my brother-in-law and I actually managed to deplete the Curse card supply.

I wonder if this situation won't be a bit of a litmus test for Stallman and the FSF. If Canonical says "no, we aren't changing this" does the FSF counter by forking Ubuntu and removing that feature? That response is at the root of Stallma

This is terrible attitude, and it greatly devalues necessary work. Yes, if you are an engineer, you see stocking grocery store shelves as a technical problem to be solved, but other folks look at it as a way to make a rather meager living.

So, when production is down, and clients are calling, and revenue is lost, it's okay to say "I'm too stressed to fix this bug?" I'm sympathetic to complaints about overly technical interviews (I've bombed a few in my day because of stress a

Further, if you write a list of instructions (say, a recipe), you will likely follow a convention that puts each instruction on a separate line, and might make use of indentation to further delineate sub-instructions.

I'm not suggesting that the tone of the post determines its veracity. I am suggesting that the reaction the post has received here is due to its tone, not to its content. I'm fairly sure most commenters would agree that his ex-co-workers

I've been doing software development for over ten years without a CS degree. Yeah, I've never had a problem that linked list solved, but I suspect having a CS degree might have better prepared me to solve certain classes of problems. Afte

I'm curious to read the book--I write software used to collect data during phase 2 and 3 clinical trials, so I have some understanding of both how trials are designed as well as what the regulators are looking for in the data. In my experie
