I don't really agree with the value gained from not naming alleged criminals, it seems like a trivialization of a complex issue.

To be clear, I agree. I've argued for explicit concurrency rather than always asnyc. I prefer Go over Node for this very reason.

I'm not convinced there is a solution to the problem. We will always struggle to bootstrap our environment, this is a symptom of trying to reproduce production environments on different targets. In the past I've been on a team tha

Compare this to Go, what % of go code do you think lies inside a go routine?

Oh man, I used to work on a large service that had to aggregate data from a bunch of downstream services and submit it upstream. At the end of the month, billing would run off the data and send out invoices -- tracking down subtle data corr

I think this is ideal - as long as the technical interviews are about the project itself. Reading these responses, I get that a lot of people here are in the role of interviewer and seem to forget what it's like to be trying to get in

I always end up enjoying the projects and learning a lot about a new domain in the process. I think for me, I see them as an opportunity to write code outside of my current role or comfort zone. I have been rejected once, the team really li

I believe PIPs exist to both measure the employee's performance and provide documentation to fire the employee. PIPs exist solely for legal reasons -- it protects the employer from being liable for an unjust firing. I'd be interes

On a side note, there are a lot of hoops to actually work with 18F. I don't blame the guy for just wanting to do a project and move on with his life.

It was often trivializing some discussion on state management. E.g. a database failover or consensus loss But, yes, it would have _worked_ if our requirements weren't so strict :)

I worked in AWS for a bit and my favorite joke was to flippantly suggest mturk as a solution to some convoluted architecture/process.

I mean, adding an esoteric tool into your development process -- one where an employee has to write a book about it's quirks -- sounds like a failure for the guys in the trenches.

I've found that there isn't an easy ramp into system admin from university -- most of the talent comes from dogmatic self learning in computer repair shops or subpar IT shops. All the good guys at $BIG_SOFTWARE_COMPANY seem to be

I see they're moving in the direction of Amazon regarding company culture, 'First, we will obsess over our customers.'. I wonder if this is due to companies sharing so many employees over the years.

From Austin, I've seen junior salaries around 75k. Cost of living is pretty low. I'm in Seattle now, where most of the companies are in the 90k-120k for junior pay. It doesn't have the same cost of living as SF and is much mo
