None of these actually issue the HTTP status code claimed: they're just linked to pages with images. Request URL:http://httpcats.herokuapp.com/404 Request Method:GET Status Code:200 OK

Nice code! There are 4 functions that can be collapsed to save some space, since they're only called once. Also assigned document.body & setTimeout to vars. Brings the size from 1090 to 966...nice to be less than 1kb! data:text/ht

If I'm reading the PHP source correctly, in 5.4 this is changed to 16kb (this entire code block seems to have been rewritten): http://svn.php.net/viewvc/php/php-src/trunk/main/output.c?vi... http://svn.php.net/viewvc/php/php-src/trunk/ma

Sorry...my bad :(. The cost of having bad name/face recognition. I think there was also a second person with blue/purple hair there as well. Anyway, I'm going to shut up before I mix up more people :-P.

Damn: I missed the edit timeframe on my comment. I just realized that Skud was actually at the panel I went to. She was one of the main people I had this discussion with, and I have a "geek feminism" sticker from it sitting on my desk. S

Well that question on kids sure is illegal to ask (I imagine an Anthony Weiner shot is also illegal come to think of it :-P). I understand the touchiness on the subjet, which is why I enjoy frank discussions about it. However, I think it's

You're absolutely right, and I hope I didn't commit hyperbole in my previous comment. I chose the word "blatant" in "I didn't see blatant sexism" carefully. Honestly, I make offensive comments all the time, but I contextualize my comments

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply the lack of magnitude of the problem. I don't think the problem is as prevalent in YC, one of the main circle of startups I know. Maybe that's because JL does a good job filtering out jerks, or maybe it's som

Last year at FooCamp I went to a panel about women in tech (I believe I was the only guy) for two reasons: 1) I have no qualms about offending people if I feel my point is valid, and in fact enjoy being in situations where I risk such thing

There's a lot of detection that can be done beyond just the behavior. The problem basically reduces to virus detection (and the ensuing arms race). You check all running programs for something that looks like this kind of bot. Right now

Nope, our main advantage is that we can be run in a user's own home. We use ordinary webcams, so if you have a laptop or webcam attached to a desktop we can track you.

It's funny, the only use I see for this is IE testing, since everything else I can install the latest version of on my Mac, and the differences between versions are pretty small (and if you can support IE's lack of HTML5 functionality you c

I strongly believe that the best path to changing yourself is experience (and screwing up), and that no book can help you be social, at least not at the speed you're looking for. Get out there and try! You know that sinking feeling you get

Also, Tungle.me got bought by RIM, so I'm not sure how much active work they'll be putting into non-RIM device support (for the calendar owner...of course device support across bookers is still valuable).

What kind of traffic does SearchYC get? Is a $40/mo Linode not sufficient? I would gladly pay that (or be content with some Google ads in the right bar). Hell, I'd even maintain the site...it's a great service.

This article seems deliberately targeted at putting down a lot of the attributes of YC without being well-informed on them. Example: Now I've never been to a YC demo day, but it's my understanding that the whole event is a lot less

I agree, except I would say "web startup" instead of "tech startup". Tesla is a tech startup, and they have some damn hard engineering problems. Twitter didn't have engineering problems until they had to scale.
