Show some respect and you'll get respect back. Yes, I've used it in a VM. Yes, I know about arm and so on. Suggest to focus more on being nicer towards others, less about questioning things where the answer can easily be found. If you're no

There are only 2 people of Red Hat on the GNOME release team (team is 9 at the moment). But yeah, due to the sheer amount of manpower that Red Hat spends on maintaining various software projects, their influence of course is pretty great. B

We actually asked for feedback to distributions various times. We would've made a decision earlier but e.g. OpenBSD would have problems. Also this time there has NOT been any official announcement yet. What we do is mostly in the open, so t

I have followed GNOME since almost the start. Helped out since 2005. I help out out because it is fun. I know a very large group of people and everything I do is appreciated. User community for me is Mageia, where I help out as well. The th

I was part of the decision. I'm not sure if you get the concept of volunteers. My influence and decision abilities is not based on "company ideas" as you seem to think. Meaning: I wasn't hired, I cannot be fired.

Allan Day is not a developer. The blog didn't quote any GTK+ developer or maintainer.

Allan Day is a designer, not a developer. Obviously he's not involved in GTK+ development. It is true that GTK+ is not much tested on any other theme than the default theme, but that is a matter of focus and lack of manpower. IMO easier to

I fail to see the problem. Either something is portable, or something is not. It is basically up to the developer. If not being portable means way less time spent on development, then some people might choose that. Good for them.

One great benefit to stability is the amount of users. Sysvinit was different in every distribution. With systemd, almost everything is shared. This results in way more users and developers looking at systemd. As a result, less bugs.

Systemd on opensuse as well as Mageia is pretty damn reliable. It is not 'test bed'. Various distributions have been using this. As a result, there are way less differences now between distributions. Which means configuration becomes easier

Dependency problems on Red Hat? News to me, and I admin various RHEL servers. I do know that there were issues maybe 10+ years ago. Bringing things up that were solved 10+ years ago is a bit pointless. Also regarding your systemd summary is

This news was initially announced by Phoronix. Later other people added interesting things that were left out by Phoronix. E.g. that the change for one was to push for support for xz compressed archives. That support has quickly gone throug

Not allowing your name to be used is quite normal. Company I know doesn't allow other companies to show that they have that company as a customer. Reason for that is branding. The other company is basically advertising using the name of ano

Dbus, PolicyKit and NetworkManager were already used in GNOME 2.x days. I don't really see how you're quoting this as a good example of why GNOME doesn't "get it", while the situation is exactly the same as 2.x.

I don't get what you mean. GNOME 3? A new project was started; mutter and gnome-shell. You say that starting a new project is better than dumping other projects. So I guess you want people not only to start something new, but also keep main

PulseAudio is used by almost all distributions and GNOME settled on it. ESD was not used by all distributions, furthermore it had bugs and wasn't maintained. Also, Gstreamer is not the same as PulseAudio.

Did you actually look at the commits? They're releasing new versions, but the amount of commits is very low. It seems pretty limited to running source code through lint, updated translations and fixing typo's in stuff that was changed. Anyw
