I've been using Graphite since November 2021 and love it. Aside from stacking, their dashboard is also a huge improvement over Github's.

Scrollbars are typically hidden by default on MacOS. I saw source code that looked like it had to be some MongoDB repo, but only saw the first four options. I was confused for a bit. It also wasn't clear that left/right arrows let

Google clearly doesn't care about their reputation. Their shutdown of Pixel Pass before users got a chance to upgrade was just ridiculous[1]. It's hard to quantify the impact that this poor reputation has on their business. Their

I've contributed and/or led development on at least 4 different AWS consoles and have used AWS every day for the last 10 years, with 8 of those working at AWS. Still only got 6 right on the quiz. That said, AWS is transitioning aw

I've heard people mention this, but as someone born in Karachi who moved to US as a toddler, I can confidently say I've only ever seen Muslim caste systems mentioned on places like Reddit and HN discussions about caste. It's

I use X-Ray directly via AWS Powertools for Lambda[1] instead of going through OTel. The underlying AWS X-Ray SDK team pushes OTel pretty hard in their README[2] and Github issues, but the current situation is that OpenTelemetry is just not

OpenTelemetry is being pushed as a replacement for AWS X-Ray SDKs by AWS, but it's in such a broken state for Lambda right now. A 200-500% performance penalty for using it is insane[1][2]. [1]: https://github.com/aws-ob

This is a big question for me. The CDK style form of authoring IaC is way better than config files in HCL/YML/JSON. It has some rough edges and I do wish it wasn't so gung-ho on the magical object-oriented constructor side-ef

This is a great point. It's true that there's a wealth of good information out there. But there's so much bad information that we now struggle with a signal vs noise problem. If you don't have enough context and knowledg

Did you actually scroll through all the way? Some emails send both plain text and HTML. I looked through mine and indeed saw text/html for most Amazon emails (including AWS). Some AWS emails like ACM cert renewals were text/plain.

I just checked, and they don't. It's certainly plain looking and without fancy styling/formatting, but they do send content-type text/html. The links and tracking pixel images are why they need HTML, I guess.

Stock at a big tech company is incredibly unlikely to suddenly end up worthless. Let's say your base pay is $160k and you have $240k in RSUs vesting each year. It would be ridiculous to take another offer of $250k or $300k cash elsewhe

This doesn't work for a lot of mature tech companies. RSUs are as good as cash at vest time, but the delay between grant and vest basically leaves you with variable pay. You can't just ignore it though, since the targeted value of

More than anything else, I'm bothered by Cloudwatch's pricing. $3/dashboard/month when it's essentially just a JSON config? $0.30/metric/month, with the risk of a junior engineer easily being able to add o

??? The literal example shown in the README has targetlang set to nodejs. Maybe it's a bit odd to specify the runtime instead of the language, but in practice, that's maybe more useful.
