"hooked to Microsoft technology if you want to iterate quickly." Why the hatchet comment? What basis do you have for saying this?

Are servers / daemons not a common usecase? Most, if not all, of the apps I write on a daily basis do not have GUI.

Ah got it, the IDE is the benchmark or litmus test of the cross platform compatibility.

Yep, and check out System.Console for some horrors in the mono runtime.

Why would you only be convinced if the IDE runs on both platforms. You realize that the IDE and the CLR/Runtime are two different things right?

So, I get the idea behind this list and there are great things to cover in the books included and most of the topics are not just for .net devs, they are pretty generally applicable. I am not in the camp that you need to own books to unders

launchd is still the launch agent for 10.10, they probably just removed the source for this version.

I haven't read the book, and not sure Gates reaction covers this. It's fine to have a progressive tax. That progressive tax becomes useless if you gut entitlement spending and instead spend on programs or services where the money

Something that occurred to me when I first saw this video is the number of women featured, I can't say with certainty if I've seen a recent major tech demo video from a large company feature as many.

There actually is kind of a history with betting and CS; the meme "bet t all" and a picture of a swat policeman petting a cat references this. Basically pre-round or mid round you could bet some of your in game currency on a side

The bit about Uber saying it screened drivers thoroughly, and then the DA (or the office) finding examples where that was clearly not true is interesting and (IMHO) not unreasonable. The weights and measures complaint I am curious about and

no lossless support, bad organization of local files, bad searching of local files. spotify can be a local player but it is a terrible choice.

This has been my experience as well; Spotify is great for pop music and more mainstream things. If one day you want a song that isn't on spotify, but it is on a free bandcamp download, the whole house of cards crumbles (for me anyway).

It's not 140 horsepower because it is designed poorly; that's a trade-off to make it react well to bullets and explosions and still run, also field serviceability.

There is a difference between your FICO score and your credit report. There is no score penalty, but a note is made in your report that does live with you.

I doubt they mean iTunes the desktop application; the "music" player on iOS is called "Music.app". As far as iTunes as a main music library manager; it's very, very good (though iTunes 12 has soured me on it a bit).

I started doing the same thing with some of the .net bcl classes. https://github.com/wcharczuk/CoreLib very hard to actually use though because frameworks are broken-ish in xcode6 right now.
