Rent control is screwing things up in the first place. For example, without the option to end leases landlord's can't empty a building, demolish it and rebuild with more units. This imposes an artificial constraint on supply. Demand isn't p

Why bother porting? Just cobble a parser onto a text editor and send the text off to a server for compilation.

I've spent a bit of time waffling about writing this. I hope I'm not crass. There's a major problem with incentives in attracting people to research. Why should supply and demand behave differently at universities? I believe that research i

The conversion from being a healthy person to a sick person is by and large a random phenomenon. You buy insurance because you have a non-linear utility function. Assuming that you'll be a healthy person is like going all in on a p=0.99 bet

All but one of the beggars who approached me in Kathmandu were children. If children can productively beg there is no incentive to educate them. Just send them out on the streets. It isn't a matter of being greedy. It's avoiding counterprod

I was a middle-schooler and my parents took me to play. I recall a bug where if you rotated the square quickly enough it would travel upward. Someone (maybe Clara?) whipped out a patch and recompiled.

I'm not suggesting that this would work for subverting an agreement as it pertains to work done while an employee. The grandparent specifically referred to an employer demanding past work, presumably predating any business relationship.

I never said inheritance, or method for that matter. You can do H-M on typeclasses. Philip Wadler has a paper on it and it's alive and well in GHC: http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/wadler/topics/type-classes.htm... The fact that Python allo

I think you've misunderstood my point. If you're advertising crack in Yuma, the Feds really aren't going to care if you're selling it in Mexico. Either way, you're going to end up in prison.
