I just got done talking with a friend who is an underwriter. Your underwriter is clueless. Go elsewhere. A mountaineering rider will cost you $2.50 - $7.50 per thousand dollars in coverage.

I can quote fatality figures at you, but I'm afraid I can't transform that into useful statistics. For the most part, you have a lot of control over your level of acceptable risk in climbing. If you want to top-rope in the gym with a sober

Of what comfort would a daydream ark be for the rest of us? There are 6.8 billion of us. What good are my feelings of camaraderie if an impactor happens to snuff most of us out? "Oh boy, I've been blasted to ashes by an inbound comet, but i

social skills = competence If you haven't got 'em, I don't care how competent you are. One bad apple can poison an entire team. Developing software is a team sport.

Not everyone in Nepal is a guide. All the guys up there are tough as nails, but there isn't much education about safety or equipment. The most advanced tool in a porter's repertoire is a t-shaped walking stick. Even the Sherpa are relativel

Back in September I sat besides a Petzl employee on a flight into Kathmandu. Petzl had tasked him with teaching snow safety and mountain skills to Nepalis who would otherwise not have access to this instruction. Plus their gear is great.

The NTSB concluded that 990 was a homicide. A relief pilot assumed control after take-off and then deliberately crashed the aircraft. From what I hear, it wasn't a fun week at the RI Medical Examiner's office.

For the same reason most (if not all) real estate agents are worthless. There's no barrier to entry and there's the allure of easy money. Until the profits collapse the market will be inundated with wannabes.
