Ubuntu is doing more harm than good to desktop linux at this point in time. Continuing to push Xorg over Wayland. Removing support for flatpak (cross-distro way of using sandboxed apps) Horrible PPA system that works much worse in practice

Yes, because Nvidia drivers are not part of the kernel they need to be updated manually and Nvidia does not distribute the source code, so you need to wait on Nvidia. Nvidia also doesn't support some of the APIs that AMD and Intel do,

You are correct - older hardware has suboptimal support. However - that laptop is at least eight years old. All the AMD graphics cards since Polaris have good support.

If you have Intel or AMD graphics work perfectly under Linux. You don't even need to install drivers because they are shipped in the Kernel.

I really like what System76 is doing by catering to power users and developers. However I think that long-term Ubuntu is not an ideal base, and I would prefer a rolling-release distribution with minimal packages, a good ports system and the

The Pixel 3a has an OLED display, and probably the best update guarantees you can get on Android. Why are you expecting Android phones to come with a 4-5 year warranty? The iPhone comes with a 1 year warranty

If you put a LCD display next to a OLED display, the difference is striking. Pretty much every Android phone has a better display, and is easier on the eyes.

This would be a major game changer. Fedora does things the right way Linux support wise (not relying on proprietary drivers). Combined with the high build quality of a thinkpad, this may become the go-to developer laptop.
