Going through the motions of using anything but nix now kind of drives me crazy. The nearly clean builds nix provides with a replicable tool chain in most cases is stupendous. It's the perfect container build tool. You can always, repe

Yeah it's all pretty darn good. People forget the cluster of bash scripts, various cronz, inetd, log, and other supervisor type daemons all to do what systemd does better with a simpler config. Now ask me about pulseaudio and there

The timing of this is just almost too coincidental to be frank. There were already cyber security XO in action and in play. How much cash will this company get now from uncle Sam to fix their negligence?

I recently ported some docs to docusaurus, love it. Wish it had a builtin search indexer so it didn't need to jump out to another site for that.

Seriously, nothing like spending a day building an image in a way documented only to see it blow up and fail, resulting in having to redo the whole thing. Wish Nix were more popular building embedded system images, the tooling is capable of

Why do people insist on supporting the closed source horror show of os x aid beyond me. Apple docs are some of the worst on the planet. It's like they intend on making the barrier to entry high so once you are in the club you somehow h

The issue says the color choice was poor, effectively critiquing the ability of the person who chose that color. I'd be insulted too. Wording choices matter.

Pure functions are incredibly simple thing to understand, much like an algebraic equation you provide inputs and get an output. There's a lot to love and learn from functional programming.

I found it funny the first comment seemed to deride the use of function pointers, compare, map, and filter as too different than the for loop centric Go. Even C provides sort with a function pointer for compare...

The result of using shared libraries for absolutely everything is docker/snappy, which are both useful on a utilitarian level but also terrible. Every docker has its own openssl version. Which means every openssl cve means updating eve

Clean compiles do take a moment. Comparable to heavily templated C++ in my experience. On the other hand iterative development with rust analyzer going and all the dependencies already built is pretty painless. By the time you run your test

Yeah don't get me wrong prepackaged food can be a big list of what!? On the other hand some of it really does seem reasonably made. At least until the Big Evil Food Co buys them out.

Oh we know where the money goes here, it's just ridiculous. Pensions and under table deals that make politicians and their friends wealthy. Want to get something done? Bribe, I mean contribute, to the local alderman.

I use nix today for ci/cd to build a large C++ project for a variety of architectures using cross-compiles. While it could be done with adhoc scripts, some cross compiler tool environment tool + conan, or something else, I effectively

I kindly disagree in many respects and have chosen not to use go after having rsi from a large project using it. I understand many people feel different but I've been permanently turned off from it.

Honestly Rust is pretty expressive. There's always some things that you are going to run into. But mostly Rust is a really nice language and environment to work in.

I'd say the entire opposite of this author, async rust works well, it solves 99% of the problems I want it to solve in a practical and useful way, right now. And even better the resulting program is faster than anything I could have co
