My issue with design systems is that inevitably the team using the internal companies design system has to implement custom components (usually early on) and try to match the feel of the design system already in place. I'd rather go cu

Java will join the (imo) better concurrency path of higher level languages with green like threads, Golang (goroutine), Erlang, Java (Loom, virtual threads) & Ruby (soon under Ractors?). I really think C# & Python will be jealous of

There is a gap between languages at the moment imo. Ruby is just ruthlessly productive. Compare https://github.com/benhoyt/countwords/blob/master/simple.rb with https://github.com/benhoyt

I just put in some numbers and wow. Unless I'm missing something incredible my findings are kinda depressing. The top 5% salary in the UK is £81,000 -> after tax is £54,817. £4568 a month. Say you spend £2k a month. That's £256

Agreed, it's a bit of a shame for HN imo. I see a team who is being brilliant and understanding their domain down to the core with as minimal resources as they can get away with. There is incredible value in incrementally adding comple

It is great to see the 'why not just host it yourself comment?'. Cliche as it is on HackerNews it always reminds me of the infamous Dropbox comment. I personally think render has a great future, 99% of dev ops is the golden archit

I don't know about you guys but I think its pretty fast. I'm from the UK and got a 34.5ms response time using network tab on safari. I looked up the IP address of the host 151.236.217.16 and the server is located in Amsterdam it s

Seems like a classical case of supply and demand. Prices will match demand, no?

What about project loom? Will that not solve this case providing you start the server with a virtual thread pool? I guess thats what he was getting at however, not having to do that.

I am also really confused. I'm a complete noob and have been trying to learn a bit more about markets and evaluating companies but it seems like so many companies have price to earning ratios of > 30. I mean even $NET (Cloudflare) l

Same boat as both of you guys I find myself in this weird world of loving Go's simplicity, loving Rails get shit done mentality + community and Java reliability (but SpringBoot makes me sad). I'm glad I ventured out of my Java onl

I feel like there could be incredible value in the one monolith server approach for a lot of businesses. I found I was getting 6-8k requests a second when returning a random number from Go http endpoint and the same with rendering a simple

Ah okay thats good news. Is it worth upgrading to HTTP2 on the server side for cloudflare if they are the only consumers of my VPS? They already enable HTTP/3 for clients but I'm wondering if I'm somehow bottlenecking them by

Quick question, if I have a VPS with cloudflare in front of it where the VPS runs a HTTP1.1 server is cloudflare limited to 6 http connections/resources to my server at a time?

How have you found Go in contrast to Java. Is the simplicity worth it?

Not sure I agree on the operational aspect in the large scheme of things. Servers are cheap, people are expensive. Thinking out loud here, say you can only serve 200rqs with Rails but 2000rqs in some other framework (yes not fair comparison

Ugh Crystal is so beautiful and sorry to make this typical complaint but I wish the compile time was 1/10th of what it is. The dev cycle loop is just not there for me but the language is incredible.

Is that true though? nullability is a area I've heard /u/pron mention may be tackled in the future, mutable records seem like they will be tackled with the 'withers' concept in the future. Checked exceptions + chang

Eh unfortunately its muddy there too, see changelog.com which is not an SPA and instead uses Turbolinks (now Turbo) to persist the podcast element at the bottom of the screen.

It gets even muddier when you consider the fact that MPA transitions will be in browsers hopefully quite soon and you will be able to achieve the exact same effect. https://developer.chrome.com/blog/shared-element-trans

I'm looking forward to Java getting Project Loom for the concurrency aspect inspired by Go I believe. It will be a nice middle ground between the extremes of Python and Go.
