I stand with everyone on Hacker News in admiration for young’uns sticking it to the man and learning about command-line secret power. _However_, I’m a little more ambivalent knowing that most of them do that to look at naked ladies, presuma

I agree that it’s generally not enough, but it feels really well-aligned. It offers shelter, prevents the car from overheating, distributes resiliency where people need it, reduces the dependency on electricity transport infrastructure, ans

Those articles miss that there are many vehicles, not just individual cars. Some use cases combine well with a vehicle being outside, slow, and not going far. Aptera is an excellent example of a fun vehicle that leverages its aero-dynamism.

Usually, those spec bumps are placeholders to allow the company to cancel more significant, riskier announcements without giving a surprisingly short presentation. Next Keynote is expected in March, which feels a bit far from now than usual

I didn’t know how fast it is. I assumed faster than water, but I couldn’t find any reference.

Most of those announcements should explain more specifically which level of the storage curve their cover: * flywheels are great for sub-second up to a few minutes of correction and adjustments, as they can have enormous output and don’t su

For a year and US home, 10 MWh yes. That’s also enough for a few seconds for 10k homes.

That’s like saying that the reason people litter is because it’s 100 times easier to throw shit out of their window than to walk to the nearest can. I’m not sure you are measuring the right thing.

That’s not making the argument any less terrifying. You see that, right?

That’s very true, but when running your car idle at the school run, you are poisoning a kid two meters away. You can hear them coughing, even with the insane sound insulation that cars have these days. I don’t get how that loop is broken.

That’s nowhere true at reasonable scale. People spend days (months even, in the last few years) in the same room without dying. You can’t do that with a car, even if the room is ventilated normally. You will die in 3 to 5 mins. Sure, if you

There isn’t much that people can do unless car drivers realize how polluting their cars are. Any rule will be seen as some obstacle to freedom and lobbied into irrelevance—unless people wake up and look at their exhaust pipe differently. I

The title quotes one financial analyst who expects a price war, but is there any evidence of that happening? My understanding is that all non-Tesla EVs are sold at a loss. I’d be surprised if they lowered their prices soon in a similar fash

There’s something profound here about how the very natural conventions in Chess (“If you did that, you’d lose, so I’d rather we continue playing”) have redefined “valid” in a way that is surprisingly hard to re-implement with code.

It’s probably the same distribution of return as venture investment: even if one in 20 of 50 work, if they repay their cost a hundred-fold, it’s worth doing more of them, including riskier ones.

People find the car they are in great because they are isolated from the people outside. People outside typically aren’t fans of the noise, the pollution, the million and a half deaths per year, the entitlement, and having most of our share

You don’t include the health cost of pollution and the cost of accidents: healthcare and loss of life make driving far more expensive. That cost is not paid for by the drivers at the moment.
