It's sometimes possible to overstress airframes (even ones that use FBW, and should in theory always operate within limits) in high-G maneuvers, as they have stress limits (g limits), which depend on the airframe as well as load-out

Is it just prettiness though? When I worked in the defence industry (~15 years ago now), a lot of the coding standards for C/C++ (which was starting to be used more and more over ADA at the time) were very strict on the matching alig

Newer Canon mirrorless cameras now support HEIF (R5 and R6), and I think newer Sony ones will as well, so the groundswell might be starting in the higher-end. But iPhones have defaulted to using HEIF for years now I think, and no browser (e

Doesn't the example video show all four cores mostly hovering at around 40-50% CPU usage (with occasional dips to 10-20%)? What else was the machine doing at the time?

Most of high-end VFX is on Linux these days anyway... And a lot of the GPU stuff is CUDA, so nvidia only... I know for certain that many VFX software companies aren't too happy about OpenGL being deprecated and Vulcan not being support

I've had even better experience with Canon: I bought a second-hand 5D in 2009, and in 2012 the shutter broke. It was well out of warranty, but Canon replaced it for free (all it cost was the postage to them I had to pay).

They're admittedly not applications most users run every day, but many multimedia applications (audio processing, encoding, decoding) is mostly done with hand-crafted instrinsics, the same goes for video stuff. In an even more niche ar

It seems (wasn't really that clear?) that Maya was running emulation? (as in, x64 binary). I don't think Maya's viewport on MacOS actually runs with Metal (it's still OpenGL), so I doubt it's a native port. Did it

They have different model numbers. i.e. the original 4 TB CMR drives were: WD40EFRX the new 4 TB SMR drives are: WD40EFAX They also have larger caches in most cases (i.e. 256 MB vs 64 MB).

Subdivision surfaces end up as curved surfaces when rendered, i.e. an approximation of the limit surface, but the modellers most definitely do model them as polygons in the DCC apps. Some of the studios still don't even bother with

Now try it with displacement :) Agree in general about geometry memory though: in high-end VFX, displacement is pretty much always used, so you have to dice down to micropoly for hero assets (unless they're far away or out of frustum).

Just like with Upstart (which existed well before systemd did), Snap existed before Flatpak, and in fact existed in another form (Click) for two years before that. So it's wrong to say Canonical is guilty of NIH-syndrome with these two

On Linux with FF 75 for me, clicking in the URL bar (or Ctrl+L) sets focus to the bar (as it used to), but also causes the bar to expand downwards (open) with suggestions. FF 74 didn't use to do this, neither does Chrome for me.

A more problematic issue is likely that it sounds like there are only 34 MAX simulators available worldwide currently.
