The thing that never worked for me in school was messaging like "drugs will kill you". Well yes that's true. But drugs are way more insidious than this. In my experience they are subtle in how they mess with your mind and ove

Hrm, I'm in my 40s. I got a criminal record at 20 for being caught in a club with 3 pills. It still didn't stop me. I continued doing Es for a long time. It was good at the time but I wish I hadn't done them. It's like a

What? I found their post informative and yours extremely patronising. They're not defensive about Aristotle, they are pointing that the quote seems to be misinterpreted because it's about relationships between men and woman.

This reminds me of the British post office software debacle that sent innocent workers to prison for fraud. Software doesn't prove anything, it burden of proof should be on the prosecution to prove that the software works. Also the def

Possibly, but then you are now doing the same thing! Also my hacker news account is anonymous, on twitter accounts tend to be people posting as themselves. (I haven't posted on twitter before, mainly because of that).

I've always felt like this. My short term memory is a bit of a mess. I blame drug abuse when I was younger. Anyway I get by with pen and paper.

Pretend to be virtuous by posting about some issue on twitter. Even better find someone to publicly shame on twitter.

Biggest thing I got from functional programming: avoid state if you can. Sometimes functional style isn't as clear (especially recursion for me). But things like map and filter are usually a lot easier for me to read than for loops.

Cultural appropriation is nonsense. Probably most of what we are is a result of cross-pollination of cultures. Who gets to decide who belongs to one group or another?

Did they actually care about crimes against humanity? I thought they were worried about the amount of power he had?

Nothing better than being publicly patronising to someone way way younger than you. Maybe it's just me, but listening to lex, he approaches all guests with a kind of open "I don't know much, I want to hear what your have to

I primarily write c# for a living. What's wrong with async await in kotlin? I'd struggle to live without it in c#.

That isn't exactly a well reasoned response. It doesn't add anything. It's just deflective personal attack.

That's a coincidence, my daughter is 3.5 years old too! The reason I'm interested is my wife is pregnant with our second. First four months our daughter slept all the time. 5 to 11 months was an nightmare. Then it settled down and

Hi, I'd say that's a pretty loose reading if the posting rules. Here's part of them: What to Submit On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting. That includes more than hacking and startups. If you had to redu

I don't think this should be on hacker news. It's just another political divisive article. I've no proof but it feels like there's more and more of this type of content being posted here. Please stop.

I'd really like to understand this process. Is there a real world example of government employee adjusts a particular figure on a particular bit of software. That then somehow sends money to a particular bank?

It applies to golf courses which I think is a bit silly. Walking on a fairway is not a good idea, and if a golf balls hits you I'm pretty certain it's the golfers fault.

I always thought theregister was written by UK staff. The new jersey reference in that article sounds like it's not. Did it change hands?

It's on Spotify. And on BBC sounds. And I think it's on iTunes. You might just be able to download it for free too. It used to be available like that years ago.
