It might require an intelligent programmer to create, but as a library, can be used by regular, unintelligent programmers. If he documents his monads well and shows how to use it, and it's effective, then it's not such a big deal. Or, you k

But you end up having to use monads if you want to do IO or interact with many popular packages, so being able to use monads well ends up being an essential skill for getting anything done at all.

You can already find real bikes for $20 in parts of the world like China. Since the article doesn't say so, I guess that this bike has to be quite a bit cheaper to make than $20 for it to be worthwhile, but then it'll be the labor costs tha

If you look at the words on the linked page, the "analysis" is from Charles Sizemore of Sizemore Capital, and Sizemore Capital "holds a long position in Microsoft".

Do you really think that all DRM users are idiots who believe in perfect DRM security? Gosh, people who buy locks must be stupid, because anybody with a crowbar can simply pry the door out of its frame. DRM deters people from copying conten

It was a bit disheartening to see that despite presenting its argument in a logical way, the article was blasted by a lot of highly visible people like Linus Torvalds which really stoked the fires. To the Internet masses, you're either pro-

No mention of local advertising? Google feels like it's behind on the whole "local" business compared to rivals like Yelp, and this would be one way to get people to use a location-aware Google app.

Easy: some blogger in an embargoed country gains some notoriety, and then somebody else notices that they have a premium WP.com subscription. That's probably enough suspicious evidence to cause some headaches for the service provider.

Aren't there regulations around trade with certain countries? Can anybody speak to the issues around a US company accepting payments from people in countries that aren't too friendly with the US?

The example code for cat is only half of cat, which reminds me of Rob Pike's criticism of "cat -v"---Unix programs are often more complicated than they arguably should be, are "reimplementing" Unix programs often means implementing a small

Again, the point is that these things that people fight over have meaning , even if they can't really be used for anything. The crusades arguably were fought over things that had a lot of meaning, even if they didn't have a lot of utility.

I think you're conflating Reddit users/mods with Reddit staff. Raganwald's rant was clearly about Reddit staff, so talking about Reddit's users' behaviors distracts a bit.
