On the latency front, CoDel exists for consumer/edge routers. Backbones solve their latency concerns by always having excess bandwidth available. AFAIK, there has been no network queuing advancements that allow for link saturation with

Are you saying, if something is popular enough it no longer needs moral justification?

I agree. I would expect the affluent to have a much more intelligent argument than "well... everyone else pirates (with differing levels of justification) and life goes on". Piracy is an alternative... not a solution.

If media is popular, everyone is entitled to it? Piracy will be rampant even if everyone is able to legally download all media. PS - I am one of those who are not "well educated with high earning potential". Even as a "poor&q

Juniper's Junos OS is based on FreeBSD. Honest question though: Does the popularity of an OS really tell us anything useful? I often use the "if it's popular, it's probably good" metric, but I know I am just being l

No, you just said my posts were poisonous and you repeatedly begged me to stop, which is completely unconstructive criticism, bordering on plain old insults, which I never resorted to. Just because I disagree with you, you think you can bul

I always thought a statement of someone's ignorance was more or less a statement of fact, vs questioning someone's abilities or intelligence, which are considered insults. Whether the implication was intended to be negative... I d

Top thread refers the title being "insulting", which is what set this whole thing in motion. I am not ranting & raving. I am having a logical conversation. Stop treating me like I am out of control. I am happy to have a logica

My comment about the elderly was intended to show that the poster was overly focused sexism when the title may have been referencing ageism or perhaps something else or perhaps nothing negative at all.

I thought that if so many were being offended on the behalf of others (women, parents, elderly, I dunno), the implication was that there was something that needed attention.

Personally, I am much more bothered by the caustic atmosphere created by the overly Politically Correct backlash when an insignificant implication is made...

I make a point to attempt being offended only when I am sure that offense was intended. Look for ways to be offended, or look for ways to understand. You seem to be doing the former, which is wasteful.

I do not give you permission to be offended on my behalf. Any jokes about my particular demographic will be allowed without criticism and I may even laugh at the joke myself.

Does being kind & understanding mean allowing someone to make a joke about you? I often allow jokes at my expense if the intent was not malicious. Also, I perceived the joke to be making fun of the elderly, not women. Honestly, you post

Technical correctness is moot when the majority already (mis)understands a word's meaning. Regardless, "internet" is just a laughably generic abbreviation of "interconnected (computer) network". On the technical fro

Regarding "some people are naturally better..."; it took me ~4 months, "running" 4 days a week, to be able to jog a 3 mile (~5K) run in ~30 minutes. My age then was 28. My friend, who never worked out in any way, woke up

My takeaway would've been; use some sort of protection, like NoScript, uBlock, etc. The choice of web-browser engine seems less important when you globally allow javascript or other similar capabilities.

I think the "not giving a damn" statement belies that you do actually care. Like someone saying "I don't care" implies... yes, you do care, otherwise you would not state such a thing.
