I should have added that I'd also prefer mandatory typing and natively compiled code. Elixir/Erlang/BEAM has a lot going for it but it's not as general purpose as I'd like

Wish there was something similar to Elm, but designed with backend/networking/generality in mind, like Go. Take the Haskell core language without all the lang extensions, and accompany it with a solid stdlib. I want an FP ecosyste

Not sure who you're responding to. I don't blame anything here, just illustrate what might cause confusion of tabs and spaces in Makefiles, namely unexpected filename suffixes. Holds true for other editors besides Emacs obviously.

I can give an example. Recently I was working on a project with multiple Makefiles, ie Makefile.{win,nix}. My Emacs config did not load makefile-mode due to the suffixes. As spaces are my default, I got spaces on TAB, iirc even after turni

I remember someone curling a Heroku CLI install script and upon inspection, it would have tried to install a specific version of Ruby too instead of just the client. Since then I always glance through the script first

Implicit key premise seems to be that the more akin a formal (programming) language to it's users' natural one, the more ergonomic it is. I would not necessarily agree, but not read it as ought-from-is.

I second this, recognising my Google account as a giant SPOF made me invest heavily into redundancy. I've gotten closer and closer to the point where I can realistically consider Google services as ephemeral.
