As I said in a comment just posted, the user who wanted satisfaction, no pun intended, created that page on GetSatisfaction forums. If anything, the failure was technical, since GS did not notify 37Signals that a page has been created for t

I don't understand why this is top of HN. Sure, GetSatisfaction screwed up their text on one of their badges, but that shouldn't have been cause for Jason to go off on a rant. Also, I think that GetSatisfaction could have notified 37Signals

This is BS, utter and complete BS. This just allows Microsoft to perpetuate their myths and TomTom gets to violate the GPL without actually disclosing it. Does anyone have the balls to actually stand up to Microsoft and finally invalidate t

Yeah, I'll be reading through those as well. I like nothing better than reading a paper out of my depth and then learning as much as I can about the subject in order to understand what I've read.

Very basic explanation of the pros and cons. It assumes a total beginner audience. I think that the lack of foreign key constraints and transaction support needs to be emphasized more, especially considering who the audience is.

Maybe it is. Putting aside the fact that this is a major change in the business model, the admins still have not responded to the furor. They gave a 5 day notice, they haven't put it on Last.fm's home page and they haven't assuaged users' f

Terrible. Instead of finding a way to effect change in the government, the "boss" dumps it on his employees. Also, isn't he implicitly saying that the employees are as lazy and unambitious as his friends? How demotivating is that? Then he r

What I'm saying is that the expectation that you, as a user, will have to pay for the service at some point in the future, but only if you don't happen to live in their preferred countries, was not set at launch of the service. If that expe

It's bad because the expectation you set with your users is that that service is free. With last.fm, it was free, but you could upgrade if you wanted to. Until this point in time, it wasn't "free, but only if you're from the right country".

I don't follow the last sentence. I do think last.fm is worth it, had they 1) made these rules from the get-go; 2) applied them equally and with no discrimination (I think this is where CBS's xenophobia fits in?) Am I on the right track? If

If what you say is true, that was not indicated in their announcement. As for market realities, it's a reality that they've offered this service worldwide. Hulu, Kindle, etc. have not. It's unrealistic to not expect a huge backlash against

I realize that, but at the same time, I realize that they've offered this service for free for a long, long time. Also, I wouldn't mind it so much, if they were to charge everyone. However, charging everyone but the English, Americans and G
