I think Google is probably the most Free Software friendly of the the new big three (Amazon, Google, Microsoft). They haven't disappointed with Fuschia which appears to be entirely copyleft: https://fuchsia.googlesource.com

I run an AWS partner who deals with many large ($millions a year each but not tens of millions each) aws customers. It seems like the number of customers asking for a feature is more important than the size of those customers in my experien

My theory is they simply can't find enough things to spend on, but can't afford to lower AWS pricing without being swamped with more demand than they can handle. I don't think Amazon are preparing for period of capital invest

AWS have two dedicated DCs ('AZs') in Sydney. For services that require quorum (Dynamo, SQS, S3 and others) they also have a private third 'AZ' in SY3-II. When you get an EC2 instance it is always in a dedicated DC, n

Given that kubernetes (the project behind GCE) was open sourced in early June, I hardly think a tweet from a week and a half ago shows it's not a response to Google.

Yep, this is Amazon reaching out to those who won't/can't take the 'immutable infrastructure' approach. It's fair to say if you're already doing things in the way you describe, this service isn't for

Not really; there's a mismatch between the people who incur the cost of getting IP address space, the content providers, and the people who would incur the biggest costs switching to IPv6, the connectivity providers.

Looks interesting, but it seems strange to me that it's something of an island. There's no integration with Elastic Load Balancer, no integration with RDS or in fact any of the other AWS services except for deployment from S3.
