I haven't seen an airplane with NDB or ADF ever, and I've been regularly flying for about 5 years. They are super rare to find on charts, at least in the US. VOR is still common but most people use GPS.

Advice someone gave me in a similar situation: coding requires Mise en Place like cooking. Mise en Place is setting everything up and prepping before you start cooking so everything is easy to access. In coding, this means thinking through

I've also done both, and think BASE is way scarier. I know way more BASE jumpers gone than people who fly pistons IFR. What are the odds of two instrument rated BASE jumpers on HN?

NetJets and ExecJets do fractional ownership--also owned by Berkshire Hathaway. They are very common and almost always hear one on frequency when I'm flying around. I've heard it described as Uber for jets. https://en

As someone with an instrument rating even having that can be foiled. I am sitting in Scottsdale when I should have been home last night because of icing. I routinely fly through clouds but don't fuck with ice :) It took my wife and I

TBF a lot of people don't know what any of that is and use Heroku or equivalent. I've worked with people who don't even know how to use find or chmod, much less ps, htop, and other system tools.

You've worked on complex systems with charts? Most places I've worked lack charts and documentation. The flow chart only exists in pieces of the people's heads still working there, the rest in employees who left. That'

GitHub enterprise is much higher and doesn't even include CI/CD. In addition other CI tools I've seen quoted in the $300/seat range. Gitlab is a steal at a $99 price point compared to other tools.

The average in almost any domain doesn't earn enough. Pareto is a real thing and creative output doesn't scale linearly. Some people are Linus and most are not. True especially in the arts where the median can't get a job w

I'm on Linux and just signed up. How do you pan around? The arrow keys work, but opposite the direction I'd expect. Don't see any panning tool obvious. Is the use case touchpads like on a Mac? Cheers

https://youtu.be/bZWeFtgEAEk?t=41 Here's the difference between rich and wealthy. Shaq, is rich, the white guy that signs his check is wealthy. Rich is something you can lose over the summer in Vegas with a drug habit.

If you can pay someone $35K a month and still make the payments on your 2nd Ranch home, you're probably upper class. I always thought about it by the distinction between can pay others or not.

Sounds like it will probably be a breakout success then. Most things that are wildly successful have "it's not going to work" opposition. Then it's rationalized after the fact when it does.

I have a Garmin 530 and it's IFR rated, most of the 430s are too and relatively common in single engine planes. The ADS mandate was more for transponders. It does seem like a lot of airports have RNAV only and if they have an ILS they
