Says $160,000 salary. I’m guessing that’s total over the 4 years, so $40k CAD per year. Still a great deal.

What you’re saying is that there were a handful of bottlenecks that you caught immediately or were found with some simple profiling, right? Not that they made the mistake of writing their app in Python instead of assembly, as the article se

What still scares me about nuclear power is the black swan events. If we have 100,000 reactors spread across the world, what’s the likelihood that over 100 years one of them, I don’t know, gets hit by a meteor and contaminates half a contin

I'm not sure if economists have developed some sort of model that would show when a consolidation would be beneficial in the long term for consumers, but I'd sure like to see one. We tend to not like it when firms collude with eac

You don't become a $1.2T company by surfing a wave. Its stock price has more than quintupled. IBM's stock price is almost flat over 10 years. GE is down over the decade. Changing direction for a ship that large is very, very hard-

I wish the author had included an example instead of just going after a straw man. There are lots of devs out there that don't know what they're doing or aren't permitted time to optimize their apps. Frameworks are a tool tha

Andrew Yang is too early with the UBI, which in this case means he’s wrong. We still need humans to make things and the future. A negative income tax would work better now and would be a better segue to UBI.

I get into a lot of fights with people about how stretching is a farce since yoga is so popular. Another running myth that gets brought up in the post is the “lactate threshold.” The misconception comes from the “acid” part of “lactic acid”

Have long read The Economist and it has definitely influenced my world view probably more than anything. +1 to everything you said—it’s a huge help in conversations. Recently, their app has included audio recordings of all their articles th

There’s some weird things about this article. 1) Their daughter likely would’ve qualified for quite a bit of financial aid, which potentially could have brought a fancy art college to within reason for her. That she never even applied to he

We embraced minimalism on my team a long time ago—no tests, no docs or comments, variable names are usually 1 or 2 characters, no indentation, no code reviews or QA, no meetings, etc.

Cloud computing was at one point a NBT. And it turned out to be a huge thing, but most people don’t even know what it is.

So what are you suggesting? We have the government create a lot of unproductive “make work” jobs for these people? Kick out those who want to work hard and escape poverty, but were unlucky to be born in a different country?

The vilification of the “tech bro” is really such a tragedy (I know, preaching to the choir here). We’re just people, trying to make a living for ourselves, and doing the things we enjoy. Our culture is no better than anyone else’s. But nei

Startup idea: unbundle the party aspect of college. That kind of social life is not something you could purchase elsewhere right now. Figuring out how to replicate it would be worth a lot of money to a lot of people.
