Yes. I spent £130 the other day on Ocado. The equivalent would cost £168 in store in Tesco. Delivery is free if you pick a sensible slot.

Agree entirely. However from an architectural POV, Asp.net has always been a pile of crap because everything is abstract classes and sealed ones at that. Virtually impossible to reliably test. Interfaces? Never! Even System.Web.Abstractions

Thanks for the link. This appears to be simple forward selling. I'm not suggesting that it is a subscription model but you will need to keep selling this every month. Also, I'm in the UK (not your target market but anyway) and we

Great. Another service that automatically ships stuff to me that I already have en-masse because some heuristics have poorly analysed my requirements or rule in favour of the seller who wrote them. Also, have people forgotten how to do lite

Technical aspects are almost irrelevant. For me, it's about the ecosystem. I do a fair bit of work on the CLR and JVM. The JVM has the following advantages: open source, cross platform, free tooling[1], incredibly more mature 3rd party

It's pretty simple. We used this and it took about an hour on top to adjust our build system to label the packages properly: http://www.add-in-express.com/vdproj-wix-converter/index.php

I'd love to see an objective real world comparison of Linux kernel vs FreeBSD kernel and ZFS with postgresql. I've got a (not terribly busy) box to build for someone and I'm torn between the two.

It's because the installer packages stink. WiX is a far better platform.

What a mess. My existing CO and smoke detectors don't need a patch. As per my comment yesterday on Nest's thermostat, this product doesn't need to exist. To have it proven as dangerous suggests that they have their priorities

Similar problem with IE for me. I raised a case with gold partner support when IE9 came out as it broke ClickOnce download prompting. Been bouncing back and forth between framework and IE teams ever since. Result: we now have to ship a .reg

I'll get downvoted for this one but they have a similar characteristic as well: they both catch fire! I had a 2010 MBP go up in flames and an immediate colleague's one screen went phut and melted. Lambos do this too (google images

Same experience here. Couldn't get it working properly and ended up with netbeans after about an hour. Edit: for ref netbeans is pretty good. I hated it about 3-4 years ago and moved to eclipse but it's pretty amazing now.

Yes and no. We ship our views as content as we have a custom UI front end that isn't razor or asp.net. The startup time for us is compiling NH proxies and the fact that our bin dir is huge: http://imgur.com/EyjR5WH It

You mean JavaFX. That works with web start :) You can do ClickOnce and WPF as well if you want. I rather like these solutions. I've built several of both.

I'm talking these two steps, not page precompilation: 1. Proxy generation (castle) -> IL 2. IL -> Native.

This is great. I hope they make this available for web apps because we've got 45 second warmup time and CPU spamming due to the massive size of the work the JIT has to do when we deploy. Total pain. I imagine this would help them keep

No they're horrible, inconsistent between apps and put emacs to shame. It is fecked. Its a 2011 MBP with NVidia graphics. Total waste of money that was. Totally unreliable machine.

Actually my windows phone 8 device (currently a circa 2013 820) isn't far off that already. Not joking. It goes: 1. Hold down start for 2-3 seconds 2. Say "Send text to Joe Bloggs" 3. Wait a couple of seconds for it to work i

could isn't enough to spend £250 on a 40% return in a year on such a low value. If you have £250 floating around then £100 difference over a year on your heating bill isn't likely a major issue either. It doesn't make sense

That's because your house is broken or you're on the wrong tariff or you like it like the tropics. My entire year in a 4 bedroom detached house is around the £726 mark for gas and £540 for electricity. That's not bad, especia
