If that's hacking then security must be putting your hands over your ears, shutting your eyes and going la la la la. Seriously the "security" measures were to remove the run box and the icon. That was it.

Sounds like your school sucked as did my university. For me I was accused of hacking for using a word macro to fire up internet explorer (the machines were locked down and IE disabled - you had to use a Sun with Netscape for web access).

This is expected. Here in the UK, the National Health Service is rapidly moving away from it. When I say rapidly, a friend of mine who is an HP reseller is deploying 750 workstations a week at the moment with Windows 7 on. The big chunk of

I have an SSD. Windows resume from hibernate in about 8 seconds. Complete cold start takes 12 seconds (less than OSX). That's windows 7. On windows 8.1 it's even faster.

They really don't. Suspend doesn't always wake up all devices, different kernel releases break hibernate completely. Also Ubuntu just disabled hibernate for a vast chunk of time. It's never worked properly. And don't get

Yeah which is why if you're doing serious shit with Windows you buy either: 1. Thinkpad T or W series 2. Dell Precision 3. HP Z-series. Nothing else is worth throwing any money at all unless it's for facebook or pr0n usage (consum

It's fine on a notebook too. More than one hypervisor per machine is not a good idea. You'll get the same problem with Intel HAXM and VMware as well. To be fair the problem with this is that the whole Intel virtualization architec

No. I run windows as a desktop. I wouldn't run any Unix derivative as a desktop - they've all been horrible to me (that includes OSX). Server-side though, it wins a lot of the time.

I never dual boot. It's a PITA with UEFI or not and has been since the dawn of time. It's Linux -or- Windows. UEFI is not a problem though - people need to stop badmouthing something they really don't understand. I settled on

Hyper-V user here. It's fine - I run 12-15 VMs (4 of which are Linux) at a time (full production environment with virtual networking) on a 4 year old Dell T3500 Quad Xeon with 32Gb of RAM. Sounds like your hardware is broken/crap.

Actually I think our weather and ground is favorable as well as clay being abundant. I imagine wood is more abundant in the US seeing as we either protected or chopped down our forests.

Having done a lot of camping in my time, this was the first thing I thought as well. If you haven't got somewhere to poop and somewhere to get rid of it, life is miserable. Believe me, burying it isn't fun. Seems like one of those

This is medium news. I'd rather use postfix. There's a ton of stuff missing from opensmtpd at the moment. Recently it had some serious crashing bugs when pipes were getting severed between the various privsep processes as well. It

Because it's an awful productivity device? It has no usable filesystem, poor integration between applications, awful input device support, a tiny screen and is impractical for office work. Yes I do own one for reference.

Yes. Don't forget this is only the start of censorship. The progression is as follows: 1. Censorship is forbidden. 2. Censorship is a subset of all things. 3. All things is a subset of censorship. 4. Censorship is universal. At that po

Perhaps we should look more towards the Marxism thread yesterday for inspiration on how to resolve this utterly horrible issue. If you have to spend the last of your days worrying about money, society is broken.
