Yes it's called a revolution at which point we storm the bases and burn the data centres and monitoring stations to the ground. But, as Huxley was so keen to point out, that's not going to happen when people are staring at Honey B

This. Very frustrating as I work with a Microsoft-oriented company at the moment. Any mention of this to their architectural team results in nothing short of "mwuhahaha you're talking shit". There is some weird universal trus

That's crazy. My entire telecoms bill here in the UK for an unlimited ADSL line, land line and three mobile phones is only £47!

I've used both. Notepad++ doesn't give you twisted willow-like hands like emacs and all the meta key love. I'm now recovering using vim and have a big pinky for escape usage.

Glad someone mentioned this. You cant call for open standards and an international bill of rights whilst bending over for corporate content control.

This really doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I inherited a Wordpress site someone hacked up for a friend of mine a few months ago. Until then, I wasn't quite aware of the ability to slide malware into it (it was an oldish ver

That they do. In fact for a recent company I worked for, Salesforce was pretty much the inspiration for the entire company with some added sector-specific stuff. So they built Salesforce basically... Totally insane but it sort of works.

The only problem with a limited number of custom fields attached to the table is that they aren't necessarily optimised for sorting, might extend past the row size limit of database tables (this is a pain!), can't be reliably type

Look up the following terms 1. SaaS tenancy models. This is the data separation. 2. Custom fields would be usually represented as an EAV model (Entity-Attribute-Value). 3. Don't ALTER in production if you can help it. If you're go

I'd like to see them put some more effort on content delivery for their TV partners. I have a Bravia EX and half the time the iPlayer streams don't work i.e. you get sound and no video. Then occasionally we get shot down for a cou

Yes. It doesn't deserve nicer terms. I've seen companies destroyed, careers destroyed and armies of consultants make off with people's livelihoods on a false promise. For ref, I've migrated to the side of thing where I g

I love the fact that a whole ecosystem has appeared around patching up the holes in the Pi's architecture[1]. Unfortunately by the time you've purchased them all, you probably could have bought a BeagleBoard instead. [1] The built

Actually I disagree. The large part (possibly not the intent) was about building a consulting empire around something utterly vague with multiple religious opinions about the best way to perform these manifesto actions. A vehicle for rats.

I found that no methodology works as well as getting the right people in and let them organise themselves. If you have the wrong people, it doesn't matter what methodology or process you bring in, you're screwed. On that basis, me

My father died a couple of years ago from an upper GI cancer that went metastatic. Three things he said to me: 1. Write down your worries and regrets and fix them. If you lose, it's good. If you win, it's awesome. 2. Don't tr

My wife has a 16Gb iPad mini retina. It had 5G free on it. It really depends what you do. 16Gb is probably enough for most people. My kids though had about 50Mb free each.

I make my kids upgrade their iPads first then test them thoroughly before I do my wife's iPad and iPhone. With respect to OSX I go for a major release straight away and test it for a couple of hours. If it's broken, I'll rest

Cadence is a fine example of how horrible it can be. Its even worse going back in time to when I had to use it on a Sun Ultra 1 with Motif UI. Everything is better now.

Yes exactly. This happens all too often unfortunately. It's why you didn't see anything BGA packaged in the defence industry for a number of years -- they are not mechanically stable. I did have a reference for this but I can'
