Social anxiety is what happens when the effort to appear acceptable to polite society feels overwhelming -- and pointless at the same time.

Most comments seem to agree with the article, and I don't quite understand why. People have been manipulated since forever, and coerced before that. You used to be burned or hanged if your opinions differed even a little from orthodoxy

That's not my experience at all: https://i.imgur.com/JXAJMNh.png Searching for Midjourney finds Midjourney with direct links to sections of their website. uBlock Origin blocks ads. All is well.

Yes but the joke is moot, because on the web, you can't really make text non-selectable (you can try, but it can be defeated extremely easily). In an app, undoing that is pretty much impossible (or at least, above my pay grade). This i

Where you get confused is with the difference between a democracy and a dictatorship.

The difference is, slavery is supposed to be over? And freedom of speech is supposed to be the law of the land?

The US obsession with "security" is striking (not least in IT). I recently realized it has its roots in the fact that Americans are invaders and slave owners. They have this constant fear of being killed in their sleep by the peop

It's also interesting if the comment comes from a US person, given that the US are primarily responsible for the political situation in Iran.

What is the point of "testing" something that everyone knows doesn't work and only exists because a serial liar said so? If Musk says you will survive a fall from a 90-stories high-rise... don't test it.

This is probably a good thing for nations providing the bulk of high skilled labor, namely India and China. Their best and brightest will tend to leave less. Much has been said about Trump, but his main quality is this: he's a foot-gun

Happy user of yt-dlp for years. It's not just an app, it's mainly a Python library, so it can be scripted from a larger Python app, which is super useful. Had never heard of Statcher, but it seems to just be a gui front for yt-dlp

I have always wondered why Google didn't buy Sun? They propbably were at the time (and probably still are?) the biggest corporate users of both Java and JavaScript (which, of course, don't share anything beyond the name).

For some reason, I really hate when websites use "my" or "I" instead of "your" and "you"; it feels patronizing, like they're trying to help us understand what's happening. Also the example g

This is insane. Never saw anything like it. One minor nitpick: zooming the map is very slow (maybe Leaflet is not the best choice?). And the main station in Paris is missing: Châtelet-Les Halles. Other than that, incredible work!! Amazing.
