That I agree with, although real thought needs to be put into security for this. This is literally a key to your home.

It’s a one time fixed cost. Running a cloud service is not. You very rarely buy a new garage door opener.

I’m curious, do you expect them to run and maintain servers for free?

“Near my network” suggested it was a security issue. Are there other companies running a cloud-based api for garage doors that don’t charge? It does cost money to keep the servers going. I personally just took a cheap remote, attached its b

Why don’t you want myQ anywhere near your network? Last I saw, 3rd party security analysis has actually been shockingly good. That said they’re rent seeking to use their products, eg $100/yr or thereabouts for Tesla integration.

This is super cool. Thanks for posting it. I dream of being retired and being able to go through each one.

Either that or they’re small shops that are running some open source software, and don’t have the chops to update their stuff.

TIL there are thousands of voip/telco providers. I cannot believe there are so many. How do they all stay in business, or get their customers?

Technically it's amazing that this is possible at all. Yet I don't see how the world is better off for it on net. Aside from eliminating jobs in FX/filming/acting/set design/etc, what do we really gain? Amateur

You cannot be dogmatic and unrealistic. When adversaries are systematically abusing your own systems to influence your society repeatedly, you need to take action. This is far less action than say China is, which not only doesn’t allow TikT

It’s very simple, the entire young generation lives on TT. It’s where they get all of their information. It’s owned by a foreign adversary. We already have laws against foreign owned media for radio and TV, why would this be any different

“What does it mean to think, to question, to understand? These are the deep waters that QwQ (Qwen with Questions) wades into.” What does it mean to see OpenAI release o1 and then fast follow? These are the not so deep waters QwQ wades into.

But what do you do use to create dynamic updates on the client side? I’m guessing it still has JS and makes API calls, no? And if so, it seems easier (to me) to just do all of the rendering client side and let the backend just be REST queri

Tariffs are a good way to ensure you still have a domestic capability. If Germany/korea/japan/China outcompete all US auto makers and they die, along with it goes a ton of jobs, manufacturing knowledge & capacity, cultura

I’m not going to engage in this highly controversial topic, there’s nothing new going on here. But to call these government talking points is wild. Go read hamas’s charter yourself: https://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century&#

Servo is dead but Mozilla is subsidized by Google. Ladybird is not a real serious contender but more a hobby project with effectively 0% market share.

Mozilla does it by getting Google to pay them a bunch of money, which itself is the subject of anti-trust investigations. That money could dry up if Google is forced to no longer fund Mozilla, and if that happens, they’re screwed. It’ll als
