I disagree. There's a pretty clear trend of people actively making more of their private life public. The people 'destroying privacy' are the general population posting the minute details of their life on the internet for all to see. They

A very small niche worry about things like this. Did everyone suddenly stop using facebook because a few vocal people worried about privacy a month or so back? nope. Most people just don't care one bit. I'm really excited about all the fun

It may be a 'marriage' as you like to define the word, but that doesn't magically make it so. Shall we use 'marriage' to also cover the union of a man to a horse? man to a table? man to a child? They have civil rights too!

If you didn't add Node.js no one would have upvoted it. Node.js is so hot right now.

If they can get people via online casual gaming, which seems like their new strategy, they have way more chance. People were never going to suddenly start using wave en masse. It doesn't solve a problem that they couldn't solve other ways

I think arguing that it must be called 'marriage' is petty. Redefining that word and stretching it to encompass more things is just stupid and less useful. Sure, give them the same rights if you like, but just call it a 'civil partnership'.

don't forget bestiality. If a man and a consenting horse wish to get married who are we to deny them that right!

I'm against gay marriage for non-religious reasons. Civil partnerships fine, have the same rights and freedoms as married couples, just call it a civil partnership instead. But IMHO this isn't hacker news and will pretty quickly get nasty.

OK, so your belief is that any program, that 'hides' itself on a computer, is a rootkit? Does the 'root' not give you a clue as to the primary requirement of a rootkit? May as well end here I think.

The Sony "rootkit" wasn't actually a rootkit. It used a similar technique to some rootkits to 'hide' itself from the user/other software, after the user had knowingly installed it. I have no idea about the AT&T 'forward all calls to t

It may sound inefficient, but I've never seen it being a bottleneck. It needs to be separated out at some point, and the kernel is the best place to do that. maybe if you're trying to serve 50,000 video streams from a single machine or so

Lets say 95% of time is in your code, and 5% is in Mongrel2. Lets say that within Mongrel2, 10% of time is in this poll/epoll stuff. That's 0.5% of your total time being spent here. So even if it's made twice as fast, your app will only spe

FWIW, I've written an async webserver which handles a few thousand concurrent users, and does thousands of HTTP reqs/second. I've never seen poll/epoll as a bottleneck, but I'm using Java NIO which really seems to work extremely well (I don

Sounds like premature optimization to me. Is this really the bottleneck? Is the extra complexity and logic really going to be a net win?

I wonder how many install anti-virus apps. You could probably make a fair bit selling anti-virus/firewall/anti-spyware apps for the uneducated. I have a N1 and have never seen the need for a task killer. Quite odd that people would install

"although we suspect the Gmail ads aren't making that much revenue anyway." If that were true, I'm pretty sure Google would have either 'fixed it' so that they do make revenue, or removed them. Personally, I'd expect those ads on GMail cert

Can't see it being a good thing when Google are deciding what company to buy though - would anyone buy adblock? I absolutely hate plugins/companies that just routinely cover up other peoples advertising. It's not a smart move IMHO.
