Until they speed up the datastore by a factor of 10 the app engine just isn't a viable platform. They don't even use it internally for that very reason (this is coming from colleagues who work there.)

Ugh. What possible good could it do to outlaw unpaid internships? Do people actually think the result will be companies deciding to pay interns rather than just not offering internships? Just put yourself in the position of a manager making

Note also that the CPI grossly under reports the devaluation of currency, in that it doesn't take into account increases in production efficiency. Cars, for example, cost more today than they did in 1970, but are vastly cheaper (in terms of

Um, wasn't that kind of the point of corn subsidies? It really wasn't that long ago when the biggest problem in the lower class wasn't being too fat, but rather being too thin. Certainly this is a cause for concern, but keep in mind that th

Ok, I'll admit it, we've had unpaid interns. When we first started out (i.e. when we were based out of my living room, and were funded by my line of credit+credit cards) we couldn't afford to buy the fancy kind of ramen noodles, let alone p

The article mentions several times that the Icelandic form of government lasted longer than the US - if anything I see that as a negative indicator, given how little actual progress occurred during that time. Compare the impact the US syste

Well no, the article is suggesting not exiting early, since and early exit means only the founders get any real money (hence my suggestion to instead give early employees lots of stock so they don't get screwed.)

Ah, good point. If you look at the brief at 99designs it does a better job of explaining what we're going for. http://99designs.com/contests/36804 But I'd say "playfully campy" is a pretty good summary :)
