You're buying the bottle not the water. People buy bottled water for the same reason they buy cans of pop rather than 4 gallon jugs of coke that they can use to refill smaller containers. It's so cheap that the convenience is worth it.

98% of companies that apply to YC get rejected. Around 10% of startups succeed. Given this, YC rejects about 3 out of 4 successful startups even if their selection method is absolutely perfect. YC is in an amazing position where hundreds (t

Twitter has about 200M users, of which about 20-30M are actually active. That's $50 per user. Or around $400 per active user. Nuts.

Regarding the classic view, isn't there a bit of bias there? since people mostly only look at the front page, then the stories they vote up are chosen from ones already on the front page. So comparing what the front page would look like if

The word "hustler" really rubs me the wrong way. The literal definition is someone who deceives others to get their money. I know that's not the intended meaning here of course, but every time I hear it I immediately visualize a card game s

Dropbox was a YC company, which meant they had quite a bit of free press and access to a lot of valley connections. I would imagine that had a lot to do with their success.

My point was that if you age adjust the numbers you no longer have the top 20% owning 90% of everything, you have the top 20% owning around 50% of everything, which is a lot less shocking. Age adjusting these numbers takes it from "oh my go

I'm really excited about this. We were burned bad by building on top of App Engine and then eventually had to switch to EC2. If they add native Python support this will give us the best of both worlds.

Thank you! As soon as those wealth inequality posts started popping up I've been waiting for someone to point out the idiocy of lamenting the wealth inequality between 22 yearolds just entering the workforce and 65 yearolds about to retire.
