No, due to ventilation. Even an indoor fireplace for example is -always- vented, so the gasses can escape via the chimney. If you close the damper with a fire blazing, you'll not have a good time. Outdoor fires well, are outdoors, so

I don't really follow. Why in your example can a locale not have both jobs? Doing one doesn't prohibit the other.

People in USA should really read about world war efforts. You had a typewriter company make the most iconic handgun of all time, and fledgling car companies building plane engines. It was a true feat of modern engineering, one I wonder if

Yes, but not the utopia devs in big cities want. They're in for a rude awakening when they realize people with way more talent will do the job for less, not only in the US but worldwide. And I don't mean typical outsourcing body

I'll add another big thank you. Your guide was the sole reason I know anything about network programming, and was very valuable even in Python where documentation was(maybe still is) sparse. Thanks!

Similarly, it's not common to build stick houses in Florida. Definitely regional.

Based on the slew of videos floating around this week, I strongly disagree that Trump supporters are behind this.

It's not an attack surface. You're posting relatively tons of data to ask them to do one small lookup.

Writing a few is super simple. But distros have tens of thousands of packages. Most people use it or a derivative of Ubuntu, RedHat, or Arch. All provide packages with systemd files. Heck, even most upstream packages are.

Running a distro is a ton of work. Writing your own one off init scripts per package is even more work. The short answer is...Red Hat has money and threw it behind systemd. Like them or hate them, they are in many ways the deciding fate o

This is where I sit. I like systemd as an init system. I find its syslog replacement unneeded overreach, and its DNS server absolute insanity. So when asked if I like systemd, it's a loaded question. It's great but absolutely su

Can't agree more. I spent most of my life hating appleas because of those damn beautiful Red Delicious. I honestly didn't understand how anyone could eat them. Fast forward to my 30s and reading a random forum post about apples,

No of course not. I guess I meant they could use each others' experience. And it's not about simply assembling things. Ford and GM have tons of engineering and experience on hand.

I simply don't agree. What the old companies have are billions of man hours of experience and engineering. Tesla has cool new tech, but keeps falling apart on things Ford or GM solved 40 years ago. I'm not saying one or the othe

This is what I was thinking also. Tel was(is?) more or less locked down so you can only put contact info on the site itself, also.

The Mueller report was released in 2019, 3 years after the election. Perhaps 4 years was incorrect of me to state. If your last question is in earnest...I guess nowhere in particular and yet everywhere. I don't particularly like any

This doesn't seem as straightforward as 'click the screenshare button to share your screen', which is how it works in xorg mode. Editing since I can't reply - I didn't mean to come across as rude, sorry for that. J

Agreed. Tried Wayland again last year. Screen sharing in Electron doesn't work, so can't share screen in Slack. Googled, known issue. I don't care how much better Wayland is...if it can't do something I'm used to

True, but any consolidation helps the 'last x' problem, generally. Instead of worrying if every house can charge at once, you only have to worry about the shopping centers. It doesn't help at the power station level though

Where I lived, virtually every big parking lot had charging stations. As big parking lots are generally wasted space anyways, why not work with them to be the place to charge? Just as I don't gas up at home, I can live with not charg

Most teams are silo'd like it or not. A backend guy or two, a frontend guy or two, layers of management, product, qa, ops people. If I'm a backend person, I'll talk to the backend guy person if we messed up. If the frontend

Same here. Well everything except retrospectives, which I think are generally wasteful or better done in small pieces. Was afraid I wouldn't see something about overdoing microservices, but I think the monolith line covers it enough.

I don't even think politics is the biggest problem. It's that everyone is trying to out virtue signal each other. Yesterday's mob was blasting Sotomayor for mispronouncing Kamala. Thinking it was bad, I watched, and I coul

Investors typically want users and growth. It doesn't look good to be declining, no matter how you spin it. And toxicity is in the eye of the beholder, generally.
