The top reply to this is excellent. It's ignorant to compare cloud gaming, where you NEED the cloud to play that game license, to docs/photos etc.. where you can download them if the cloud service shuts down. Everyone on HN predic

if you're worried about this going away, why not use something like hugo. It's markdown, and there are dozens of places that will host for free. I host on Netlify (free). If they go away or start charging, I have many more options

if that's the case, why in your example is someone running rpmbuild doing it so much faster than an automated CI system. If your reasoning is that it will be faster in the future. Fine. But I doubt it. Criticizing Alma because it was f

I don't think it's fair to be that harsh. Ultimately Red Hat incurs costs from engineering RHEL. They fund that through support contracts. So obviously a company that doesn't incur these costs can sell support contracts for c

Why is this a concern? If Alma and Rocky are essential identical, speed is the only/main differentiator, and it matters. If an urgent vulnerability gets patched in RHEL, and I'm using Rocky or Alma, I want the one that gets patche

I'd love to see a technical writeup of the differences. If Rocky genuinely were better, a 5-week delay vs Alma would probably be ok, at least for the original release, as long as the dot releases are faster. No one wants security vulne

I don't quite understand "provisioning and longevity issues, Rocky is winning." As a user of CentOS looking for a replacement, Alma and Rocky should be 100% identical. The _only_ difference is delay after RHEL launches.

This is literally the 'too big to fail' outcome. Boeing sucks. They're only selling planes because AirBus can't build enough for all customers. It's disappointing that mess after mess they're not held accountab

Ding! The whole issue was that they cheated to hide the differences to avoid additional training. Which proved fatal as the pilots were unaware of those differences.

I sort of read the OPs message ironically. The OPs point is that this stuff is broken compared to how a Windows or Mac user would do things. Windows/Mac users just click download, and double click. Linux could get to the same spot (mor

I agree with all the replies to this. 1. If you're saying that it's mostly software, then you shouldn't have created hardware. You should release and sell software to run in tandem with existing cheap webcams. Not a low-quali
