If true this would be a huge reason to get a kobo over a kindle. I use calibre and have owned multiple kindle and just plug in once every few months to copy books over usb.

But not by tomorrow. Google is trying to pay their way into cloud leadership. Because they can’t catch up organically.

On Windows Nvidia has better drivers. On Linux, AMD is far ahead.

probably because there's a free OSS equivalent to most software. The free equivalent to meeting up with friends/developers is a zoom call, and those suck.

I think it's straight forward. They made a decision to pay top dollar because they had ambitious plans, and wanted the silicon valley types. All went well. Then, as this part of the company grew, some bean counter decided it was a huge

they don't care. It's not like the person making this decision will then be held accountable for having the pay a replacement more.

But that's Scott's point. If the OS devs had thought through this from the beginning, app devs wouldn't have to keep dealing with breakage. iOS devs have other issues, but not these. Apple and Google approached the mobile OS

I'm in the same boat, but this will do up to n64. What else could you want? Dreamcast? PS2? Not sure it's just power, and probably so much complexity vs PSX/N64 that it won't be done for years.

but how do you explain AnandTech lasting so so long if the business model didn't work? I remember reading AnandTech >20 years ago. I think it failed now because they slowed down on releasing content. Over the last 2 years they'

I will really miss this site. They did incredible deep reviews of tech. But once Anand left, the site started dying. They posted 1 review a month, and didn't even cover the iphone or galaxy or pixel launches. How on earth was that mean

There's a reason Apple is doing so way. The A and M chips are a huge reason for that. So sure, benchmarks don't matter, but performance does, and Tensor is way behind.

Remember when Google used to do live benchmarks showing it beat the iPhone (and even the iPad). Those were the days. Now Tensor is bottom of the pack for high-end phones.

did they need to build all that? I'm all for them doing something new, especially integrated tiling support. But it seems they have taken on way too much for a small company.

I've always wondered how much of Azure is built on Windows Server (and .NET) vs Linux plus open source languages.

It is mind boggling that Google has given up on so many potential businesses like code because they didn’t think the market was big enough.

I’m sorry. You are working on changing things so FREE sites don’t get charged??? That’s the elephant in the room here. I understand an enterprise plan where you state billing is $xx per GB, but billing someone with a free site?? Give me a b

Agree. I generally dislike relying on a bunch of third party plugins. Over time they don't get updated and you're left with a mess.

Just think of Seattle while Amazon was WFH. The city was dead. Restaurants, food trucks, barbers etc.. All dead. I'm pretty sure the big firms get tax breaks for forcing RTO, as it helps local businesses.

Agree with all of this. Apps are so much better on iOS. I have been on Android since the G1, but switched to iPhone with the 14 Pro Max. Here were the apps I switched to using when moving over to iOS. I consider every switch superior on iOS
